PART 1

= 8:15 p.m. Friday =

Jack stepped out onto his front porch when he heard Daniel's car pull into his drive. It was later than he expected him to be, and he'd been waiting, almost nervously, for the past hour for Daniel's arrival. He gave a smile and lifted his hand over his head as he gave a little wave at the man in the car.

*God, help me get through this weekend with Daniel, please!*

He kept the smile on his lips as he stepped off the porch and went over to the car.

*God, help me get through this weekend with Jack, please!*

Daniel gripped the steering wheel tightly as he pulled up behind Jack's black jeep.

"Hey, Danny!" Jack voice was friendly and casual, belying his inner turmoil.

Daniel slipped out of the car and smiled at his long time friend. "Hey, Jack."

Jack looked into the back seat of the car then at Daniel.

"You're only here for the weekend .." He indicated to the clutter in the back seat. Daniel blushed slightly then smiled.

"That was already there-" He shrugged then he turned and bent over the front seat to reach the bag on the floor. Jack looked at the rump before him, the way the denim pants gripped the rounded cheeks, the way it hugged his firm thighs...

Daniel straightened up and almost backed into the dreaming Jack.

"Sorry." He smiled and Jack stepped aside to let the guy pull the heavy bag out of the car. The Colonel looked at him.

"That it?" he asked, eyeing the large duffel bag being hugged to Daniel's chest.

"Only the.. groceries in the back.." he said, a little nervously.

Jack frowned a little then opened the back door of the car. A pile of books slipped out and fell to the drive. Daniel blushed and put his bag on the ground as Jack squatted and picked the wayward books up. Daniel inhaled as he looked at the tight black denim around Jack's crouched thighs. He licked his lips nervously as Jack stood and tossed the books back into the overly cluttered vehicle. He gave a quick look over his shoulder and Daniel pointed to the brown paper bags on the floor. Jack reached down and Daniel tried to avoid admiring the view, but failed as he saw the curve of the pants into the cleft of Jack's butt, the leg bend against the seat to offer some leverage as he reached across the back seat for the groceries.

Jack straightened up and Daniel looked at him, a friendly smile on his lips.

"You know, Danny, I *do* have food.." Jack clutched the bags to his chest as he closed the car door with his hip.

//Smooth move,// Daniel thought as he let Jack walk ahead of him into the house.

The colonel stopped by the front door and Daniel walked into the back of him, unprepared for him to stop so suddenly.

"You gonna set the alarm?" he asked about the car. Daniel nodded and jostled the bag in his arms to point the key ring at the car. The familiar *beep* was heard and the men went inside.

Dropping the heavy bags onto the dining room table the host turned to head down the hall way.

"You'll have to excuse the state of the room," he said as he stopped at the spare room and opened the door. Daniel, without looking in, just shrugged.

"I appreciate you letting me stay here. I know it's an imposition, but I promise, you'll hardly know I'm here..." he said softly then he looked in at the room.

It was, in the nicest description, untidy. Jack shrugged and pushed past him and started to pick up a few things off the floor and bed.

"You're no imposition, Danny. I wouldn't have offered if I felt that way. However," he tossed a pile of clean clothing off the bed and onto the floor, "with 5 missions this week, I haven't had a chance to tidy.." He said, as a way of apologizing for the room which was much messier than he thought it would be. "And I just got home before you got here.." That bit was a lie as he indicated towards the car in his drive. Daniel nodded.

"Really, Jack, it's fine.." he said, going over to the bed and dropping the bag onto it. Jack saw him sit and look around and then he caught his breath as Daniel tilted his head and smiled at him. Fumbling a little, the Colonel picked up the clothes basket and headed to the laundry.

"If you wanna do any laundry.." he called from the room down the hall.

"No I don't think so..." Daniel said, getting off the bed and opening the bag now. Jack stood in the doorway behind him, watching the younger man pull jumpers from his bag. He watched as he laid them carefully on the bed, in a neat pile. Then he pulled out a pair of jeans and Jack watched as he folded the long legs over in his arms, placing the pants on the bed next to the pile of tops. Daniel lifted up some socks and, finally, he tossed out three pairs of jocks. Jack lifted his brow. A Jock man.. he'd have thought the anthropologist was a boxer boy....

Daniel turned and saw Jack against the door frame.

"Oh," he laughed softly. "I didn't realise you were there!" He ran a hand through his hair.

"I live here Danny," Jack quipped as he pushed up off the frame and stepped over to him, heading towards the window. Daniel stayed where he was, almost frozen to the spot as Jack came up to him, almost chest to chest, then the older man reached behind Daniel and pulled the blind shut. Daniel looked over his shoulder as Jack bent over and switched on the lamp beside the bed. His heart raced at Jack's closeness. How was he going to survive this weekend...?

Jack pulled back but didn't step away. Daniel thought he was too close.. but he figured he was just being nervous.

The dark eyes scanned up and down the nervous anthropologist, then as if suddenly realising that he was far too close to him in the name of platonic relations, Jack casually turned and stepped back over to the doorway.

"You want me to leave the light on as well?" he said, over his shoulder.

Daniel hated that his voice stammered as he said softly, "no, lamp light's good.."

Jack smiled as he switched off the light then nodded before heading out to the hall.

Daniel released the breath he didn't even realise he'd captured and then he turned to his bag again, distracted and unsure what he was doing...

Jack stopped in the hall just outside the room, his shoulder pressed into the wall as he brought his hand up to his face, noting it shaking ever so slightly as he rubbed his cheek slowly. He caught his breath, feeling the tension in his groin easing a little then he headed off into the kitchen.

At the moment that he disappeared into the kitchen, Daniel headed out into the hall, looking for the bathroom.

= 8:30 p.m. =

Daniel entered the kitchen, smiling when he saw Jack cooking some dinner, a white tea-towel tucked into the top of his jeans to protect himself from splatter.

"All settled in?" Jack asked, as he read the recipe carefully, adding just the right amount of seasoning to the mixture. Daniel hugged his body as he nodded.

"Yeah, only I have my suit. I was hoping.. could I hang in your wardrobe?"

"Suit? Sure.." Jack shrugged and wiped his hand over his groin, smearing seasoning lightly over the white toweling. Daniel noted the smear then looked up into Jack's smiling eyes. "Well, we don't stand on ceremony here, nor do we dress for dinner.. so you must be going out?" he asked. Daniel smiled then nodded at Jack's witticism.

"Tomorrow night, I'm going out for dinner.. Didn't I tell you?" he asked.  Jack didn't like the sound of that at all. He bet it was a date.. with a woman.. a beautiful woman... the sort the young guy liked.. probably.

Jack just shrugged. "Errr, no, but that's fine. I won't cook tomorrow night then," he said, hoping to not sound as jealous as he felt.

"Well, that's up to you.." Daniel shrugged. They fell into an awkward silence until Jack turned his head to look at him, still standing - unsure and hugging himself - by the kitchen door.

"You gonna hang that suit, or what?"

"Yeah, but .." Daniel pointed over his shoulder. Jack shook his head.

"Just hang it up Danny! I don't care if you go into my room.." he said then cursed the little voice teasing him about that comment in his head.

Daniel nodded then went up to Jack's room, the last door on the right down the hall.

Jack licked his lips as he thought about how nervous the guy was around him, how awkward Daniel seemed to be in his presence. How uncomfortable he was with Jack. He hoped he didn't give Daniel reason to be nervous, like if he was obvious with his secret lust for the gorgeous anthropologist.. God, he never had a chance with the guy..

Suddenly it hit him. Daniel was in his bedroom. ANY chance to see Daniel in his room, standing so close to his bed, was a moment not to be missed!!!  He turned the flame down and hurried from the kitchen.

Daniel looked around when Jack scurried into the room, his white socked feet sliding a little on the polished floor boards as he rounded the corner into the room. He recovered graciously and Daniel smiled at his elegance. Jack was always so smooth in his movement, Daniel thought.

Jack saw Daniel half in and half out of his wardrobe, far too tantalizing in his jeans and soft cream cable knitted jumper. He tried to store that image in his mind.. for later!

"What?' Daniel asked.

"Nothing.." Jack shrugged, trying to be blase now.

Daniel looked at him. "You've changed your mind?" he frowned, lifting his hands above his head to remove the suit again. Jack noted the jumper lifted as well, revealing the soft skinned tummy underneath. He was looking there when Daniel looked back at him again. Jack's head jerked up.

"No!"

"Oh," Daniel nodded and hung it up again, giving Jack another peek of flesh. Again Jack's head jerked up when Daniel turned to look at him. "Sorry?" Jack asked, feeling like he'd missed something.

Daniel looked down at himself, then around, wondering what Jack was looking at.

"I didn't say.." //anything//  He shook his head.

Jack nodded, over enthusiastically. "Oh, I thought you said..."

"No.." Daniel shrugged and Jack smiled.

Daniel sniffed. "Dinner?" He frowned. Jack's eyes widened and he tore out of the room again, causing Daniel to laugh lightly at the panicked look on his friend's face.  God, he was so adorable, Daniel sighed softly to himself.

He lingered in the bedroom, hoping Jack was too pre-occupied with the cooking to notice. He ran his hand over the pair of jeans tucked over the bed end. He imagined Jack in them, his thighs pressing the cloth as they filled it.. his butt being hugged by the material.. He sighed shakily. Perhaps dreaming about Jack wasn't a safe thing to do.. but what the heck? This was perfect. Here he was surrounded by the guys stuff, he could smell his aftershave and he could touch his belongings. He noticed the silk boxer shorts on the pile of washing in the corner. A boxer boy? Daniel took Jack to be a jockettes kind of guy..

and Silk.. oh boy! ... silk boxers against Jack's soft...skin......

Daniel felt like a teenager in love and cursed himself for it. He shook his head and switched off the light as he left the room. As he headed to the kitchen he wondered if Jack was wearing silk ones now...

  = 8:45 p.m. =

Jack placed the meal before his friend then sat opposite him, stretching his long legs out, entangling them with Daniel's under the table.

"Sorry-" Both said at once as they straightened up, tucking their feet under their chairs.

"Looks good," Daniel said, picking up his fork and pointing to the meal. Jack smiled.  His rare, full smile that Daniel always loved to see, but rarely got the chance. He realized, after he'd done it, that he sighed rather heavily as he stared at Jack.

Jack's brain was screaming at him. He sighed at you! He sighed at you! Oh Shut up! He did not!

"Let's eat.." Jack said and placed a fork full in his mouth.

= 9:30 p.m. =

Daniel and Jack laughed as they did the dishes together. Some of the nervousness and the awkwardness was gone and they were more comfortable together now. Daniel had started the dishes before Jack got the chance to point out the dishwasher to the guy, so they shrugged and agreed to just wash-and-wipe instead.

"So then Hammond looks at Teal'c and says, 'You sure about that?'" Jack laughed and shook his head, his hands immersed up to the elbows in white foaming water.

"Oh, God! I would have ducked after that comment to Teal'c..." Daniel laughed then frowned as he watched Jack fidgeting. Jack saw his look.

"Itchy shoulder.." he explained as he wriggled. Daniel placed his hand on the left shoulder and Jack said, "a little right, nah.. down .. no.. left .. no down.... lower... lower .. ahhhhhhh," He smiled with relief.

"Jack, that's your lower back.." Daniel said, an amused smile filling his face now as he scratched Jack through the layer of sweatshirt and jeans, hearing his nails scratching the black denim.

"Shoulder, back.... who cares.." Jack laughed, enjoying feeling Daniel's hand so close to his arse.

"Passed Anatomy 101 did you?" Daniel laughed softly as he shook his head. Jack looked at him from the corner of his eyes. God, he was so goddamn cute, especially when he teased him!

"Just.." Jack shrugged, then he couldn't resist, "I know where all the good bits are, anyway," he said, a cheeky grin filled his face again. Daniel looked at the smiling man, unable to stop the smile spreading over his own face.

"Oh, yeah?" He wished he and Jack thought the same bits were good, then he shrugged, "I guess we all know where the good bits are, Jack!"

Jack smiled as he bowed his head. He knew where Danny's good bits were, just to the right of his hip, so close, so goddamn close....

Daniel picked up the tea-towel again and then waited for Jack to wash the next dish.

"So, then what happened?" Daniel shook the plate to knock the suds off as Jack resumed the story.

= 10:25 p.m. =

Jack was sitting in the loungeroom when Daniel came to the top step.

"I'm off to bed. Night," he said quietly. Jack swung around in his seat.

"Oh?" he knew he sounded disappointed, "oh, well, night Danny," he said, hoping to recover it well.

"Night," Daniel smiled sweetly.

//Go and ravish him!// Jack's mind argued with him again. The two men stayed looking at each other for a few moments, neither noticing the long stare then Daniel turned and headed to bed.

Jack reached out and picked up his beer and took another swig as he flipped through the channels on the television. Now that Daniel had gone to bed, he no longer had conversation to keep him occupied, so he wondered what was on the television...

= 11:30 p.m. =

The phone jangling through the quiet house scared the living crap out of Jack, then he hurried and picked it up. It was Sara. She was going through a rough spot and needed to "talk" to him. He was always there to talk to her, she knew that. No matter what time, day or night, Jack had insisted she call him when ever she needed to. He was glancing down the hall when Daniel came out of his room, rubbing his eyes tiredly. Oh God, Jack thought as he watched the archaeologist shuffle off to the bathroom, how cute is he! He tried to return his thoughts to Sara but his eyes remained on the strip of light from under that bathroom door. Soon the door opened and Jack knew he inhaled loud enough for Sara to notice, and she had. He said he just yawned and told her to go on, but his eyes strained to see Daniel shuffle back to his room and shut his door. Jack tilted his head down now and concentrated on the call.

= Saturday. 12:15 a.m. =

Jack was still flicking through the channels trying to find something decent to watch.

"You still up?" came the soft voice from behind him.

Jack gripped his chest and swore loudly. He turned to see Daniel stepping into the loungeroom now.

"Sorry!" The younger man smiled. Jack shook his head, smiling and cursing Daniel's cuteness under his breath. He never thought the guy would be a P.J. kinda guy, but here he was, in his little flannel pajamas - blue plaid ones at that - looking warm and very, very cuddly.

"It's okay. I'm just not used to someone walking up behind me in the middle of the night," he said, truly happy that Daniel was awake again.

Daniel nodded as he sunk down into a chair.

"What are you watching?" he asked, staring at the television, blinking his eyes trying to adjust to the large, bright screen in the darkness.

*You,* Jack thought then shrugged as he said, "nothing much on, really.."

Daniel nodded, and commenced watching it with Jack.

= Saturday. 11:35 a.m. =

Daniel's blue eyes blinked open slowly. He adjusted to the sounds around him; unfamiliar noises of children laughing and lawn mowers mowing, and people in generally milling about, slamming car doors shut, chatting and laughing loudly. The sounds of suburbia, which Daniel, living in the CBD of their little township, never heard in the mornings. His life was full of blaring radios and people yelling and cars screeching to a stop at the lights near the apartment building.

He liked it here... It was - nice!

He moaned softly as he rolled onto his back then he reached his arms straight up over his head and stretched then yawned. He'd slept well, considering the strange bed. After he'd sat up watching 'nothing' with Jack, he finally came back to bed around 2 a.m., hoping Jack didn't notice he was just sitting up for the heck of it, just to be with him. Then when he first laid down his mind was full of Jack.... and Jack's smile and Jack's laugh and Jack's brown eyes and Jack's little squint and Jack's... well, and .. *Jack*!

Smiling to himself, he rolled off the bed then wandered around the room. It had trophies of Hockey matches that he'd obviously excelled in or won - and probably why the guy still had such a drop-dead great body. There were books by the dozens filling the shelves that lined the wall. There was a discarded television set and VCR, obviously not needed after an update to the rather state-of-the-art home theatre centre now gracing the loungeroom. He fingered some papers sitting on a shelf. The top page was hand written but, judging by the shape of the writing on the page, it was poetry, not journal stuff. He twisted his head to read the neat hand writing...

I sit alone

You're in my thoughts

Why can't I tell you

how I feel?

Why does this life

have to hurt so much

why can't I have

what I crave to hold?

Daniel rolled his eyes. He was in touch with those emotions that Jack had obviously either written down or copied from somewhere. He wanted to ask Jack about the work, was it his? Were those his feelings? Who did he crave to hold? No, perhaps Daniel didn't want to know who she was....

Besides, asking him about it would reveal his snooping... He wasn't snooping, per se, he just wanted to know a little more about Jack, learn a bit more about his studpuppy's life..

Daniel shivered as he felt a cool wind pass by him. He went over to the window and closed it, then he looked out. It had been snowing, a layer of snow covered the ground and the cars in the driveway. He straightened up then looked around the room. So much of Jack was in there... but then again, there was so much of Jack outside the room too, somewhere in the house, waiting to be accidentally brushed against, and smiled at, and spoken to...

Daniel was realistic enough to know that the Colonel of US Air Force and the C.O. of SG-1 would probably beat the living crap out of him should he ever reveal his true feelings for him, but Daniel was enjoying the stolen moments, the innocent little brushes he made against him (only they weren't so innocent), the little gestures that *might* mean something else.. if the Colonel hadn't been so straight and narrow...

He hesitated about dressing, then decided he should. He pulled on his worn jeans and a soft knitted sky blue jumper, then he ran his hands through his hair as he left the room.

Pouring himself a coffee, he looked around the silent house, Jack was nowhere to be seen. He wondered what he should do, should he go into the loungeroom and just sit around, waiting for Jack to show up ? Or should he go looking for him? The guy might need his help..

Just at that moment the front door opened and a rather puffy and sweaty Jack entered the house. He nodded at the younger man then placed his fingers on his throat and timed his heartbeat, then he unzipped the jacket to reveal a tank top beneath. Daniel sipped his coffee quietly, trying not to notice the sweaty body, the way the tank top clung to Jack's wet chest, the rosy flush on Jack's cheeks now.

Jack turned and smiled at him.

"Morning," he said, heading into the kitchen and grabbing a glass of cold water.

"Morning. I didn't know you were a runner," Daniel called from the loungeroom.

"Every weekend, like clockwork.." He nodded as he came out with the tall, cool glass of water, sipping at it slowly.

Daniel took one quick scan up Jack's body then nodded.

"So, what have you been up to?" Jack asked, as he caught his foot in his hand and gently stretched out first his left thigh then his right one. Then he did other warm-down exercises as he waited for Daniel's response.

"Oh, I just milled around-" The young man shrugged. Jack nodded.

"Well, I'm hitting the shower," he said, grabbing up his glass and heading down the hall.

Daniel turned back to the television then sat down, flicking over the channels until he found a music program. It was music or sport or children's cartoons, and Daniel wasn't in the mood for any cartoons, and watching men play sport was only going to bring to mind the incredible look Jack had as he stood, panting - chest heaving - in the dining room. Daniel shuddered as he tried to rid his mind of the image of the sweaty Jack.

= 11:55 a.m. =

Jack felt the shampoo glide down his body amidst the stream of hot water as it cascaded over his skin. How he wished it could be Daniel's hands running over his skin, but he knew it would never be. That gorgeous guy, (who, he'd noticed looked stunning in that blue jumper a few moments ago) wouldn't be interested in him and his tired and worn out, battle scarred body. Jack's hand slid over his stomach as he rubbed the soap across his skin then around to his back. He glided it down between his cleft then shut his eyes, imaging Daniel there with him. Jack slowly worked the edge of the soap against his opening.  The feeling, mingled with the hot images of a wet and panting Daniel, filled Jack's mind and body with a warm flood of arousal.  He dropped the soap to the floor but it didn't matter. In his mind's eye Daniel was there with him, touching him, gliding his soft hands over his hot skin. Jack's hands ran down the front of himself now, then he gently gripped his firm erection as he let himself dive deeper and deeper into his fantasy of Daniel....

= 12:10 p.m. =

The front doorbell went and Daniel looked around. Still no sign of Jack so he answered the door for him. He smiled sweetly at the lady at the door.

"Hi, can I help you?"

"My name's Cynthia, I'm Jack's neighbour," the auburn haired beauty said with a stunning smile.

//Of course you are and no wonder Jack likes to come home and not stay on base..// Daniel tried to curb his jealousy.

"He's.. err.. busy at the moment. Is there anything I can help you with?" the young man asked in a gentle voice. Cynthia smiled.

"Well, if it's no intrusion, Jack normally changes my light bulbs for me, you see, I have a bad back... I'm not allowed to reach up," she said.

"Oh," Daniel nodded then looked back down the hall. Still no sign of Jack.

She noted his apprehension. "It's no hurry. Anytime today will be fine, before it gets dark." She shrugged. Daniel shook his head.

"I'll come now," he said, reaching back and putting the cup onto the dining room table.

"Sure?' she frowned. Daniel nodded as he bent over and pulled some shoes on before following her out.

=12:30 p.m. =

Jack stepped out of the kitchen when Daniel returned.

"I wondered where you got to," he said with a smile. Daniel looked at him, dressed in a white t-shirt under a comfortable pale denim shirt, untucked over blue denim jeans and black socks but no shoes. He looked great, Daniel thought. Far more relaxed than when he's at work. And blue denim certainly looked good on him..

Jack frowned and looked down at his top. "What?" he asked when he noticed Daniel staring at it.

"Nothing," Daniel shrugged.   "Blue suits you, that's all," he muttered.

"Oh?" Jack was a little taken aback but managed one of his drop dead gorgeous smiles for Daniel again. The younger man flustered quickly then decided that something in the loungeroom required his urgent attention.

= 1:10 p.m. =

"Mind if I use your phone?" Daniel asked as he turned from the television and looked over at Jack.

"No, go ahead." Jack shrugged.

Daniel got up and went to the phone, pulling a little book from his back pocket. Jack watched the simple but provocative movement, the book slipping from the tight pocket that hugged the rounded butt. Jack sighed silently as Daniel dialed a number then covered his other ear with his hand as he bowed his head while he talked.

Jack half strained to hear the call, but tried hard to look like he wasn't listening. Daniel laughed a lot, he noticed that, and then the young man put the phone down and turned to Jack as he slipped the book back into his jeans pocket.

"I'm going out for a while, is that okay?"

Jack shrugged. Like he had any say in Daniel's private life. "No, why would it matter to me?"

"Well, I'm your house guest-" He shrugged.

Jack shook his head as he reached out to pick up his coffeecup. "So? You're free to come and go as you please here, Danny. It's not like you've come to visit me, your apartment's being painted, that's all."

*Not like you've come to visit me...* the words rang in Daniel's mind as he went to his room to change his clothes. Little did Jack know how much he wanted to stay and spend time with him, but he feared his 'interest' in the colonel might be too obvious if he hung around too much. He felt uncomfortable, only in the fact that he wanted to know more about Jack, wanted to be able to sit and talk openly with the older man, however, Jack didn't seem to want to talk. He seemed more interested in surfing the television than wanting to get to know Daniel on a more personal basis. Jack was, it was painfully obvious to him now, not interested in Daniel as anything other than a work friend. He never asked Daniel about his personal life so the guy just wasn't interested in deepening the friendship, and any questions Daniel asked him were answered swiftly and curtly, with no interest in elaborating on the answers. Daniel felt his cheeks flush. Perhaps he should have stayed on base. Least that way he'd have Teal'c to talk to.

= 5:45 p.m. =

Daniel knocked on the front door and waited. Vapors flew from his mouth as he breathed out in the cold air. He jiggled on the spot, wishing Jack would hurry up and answer the door. Realising that the man wasn't going to come to the door anytime soon, Daniel decided to try the back door, he knew where the spare key was back there at least. Perhaps Jack had gone out for the evening.

As he rounded the house Daniel stopped in his tracks. Jack was lifting an axe over his head then smashing it down through the fire wood, splitting the log in half. Daniel admired the strength of his male companion. The strength that must be in those arms.. his mind drifted off to his memories of seeing Jack in a t-shirt, the sleeves rolled a little, showing off his finely formed biceps and his lovely forearms. Daniel sucked back a cold breath of air. *Crack*, Jack had struck another log then he bent over to pick it up, balancing it for another strike again. *Crack* he'd struck again.

Daniel watched the fluid movements until Jack was about to lift the axe again then he caught the young man out of the corner of his eyes and stopped, half turning to see Daniel then turning back to the log. *Crack*.

That was exactly the same sound of Daniel's heart as it finally snapped. Jack looked stunning! In that split second glance over his shoulder, Daniel had never seen him look better. Dressed in a black jumper now over his blue jeans, with his face flushed from the cold and the hard work, his hands gripping the handle of the axe, his shoulders lifting the heavy axe up over his head and the power with which it came back down again.

"Can you give me a hand getting some of this into the house?" Jack called over his shoulder as he lifted the axe again. Daniel almost wondered if he knew how sexy he looked and that was why he kept doing it, but he placed his shopping down on the back step then headed down the yard to Jack.

"Just that lot," Jack said, admiring the view as Daniel bent over to collect the split logs into his arms. When the young man straightened up again Jack smiled as Daniel wrinkled his nose, trying to prevent the slipping glasses from falling off. Hesitantly, but playfully, Jack lifted his finger and pushed the glasses back in place for his friend.

"Thanks." Daniel smiled sweetly. Jack blinked then grinned. Who could resist that little smile and that adorable little dimple that showed up on his right cheek sometimes. Sometimes, like now. Daniel was still smiling at him and Jack suddenly became very awkward. He reached down for his own armful of split wood then groaned as he straightened up.

"I'm getting too old for this," he mumbled.

Daniel laughed softly. "You're not old, Jack."

"I'm a damn sight older than you, boy," he teased as he glanced over his shoulder at the scientist.

"Only 6 years..." Daniel had made the calculations already. Jack found that interesting.

"Oh, is that all?" He managed his dry quip anyhow. Daniel smiled to himself as he followed him up the yard towards the house again.

"It has to go in the drying room under the house," Jack explained about the wood as they stopped at a door under the back patio. They entered the room under the house via a small door that both tall men had to stoop to fit through. Jack squatted and reached back for Daniel's wood. The young anthologist looked around, seeing the small vent on the ceiling.

"I did this. I wanted a dry place to keep my wood," Jack explained, "so I made this room under here. The heat from the house comes through that vent, helping to dry the wood."

Daniel nodded. The CBD didn't need wood for open fires. He had a gas heater in his apartment. He looked at Jack and smiled.

"You must be quite handy.."

Jack shrugged. "S'pose." He headed out of the room now and into the house, taking off his boots as he entered the laundry. Daniel grabbed up his shopping and headed in behind him.

= 6 p.m. =

Jack was cooking again, his white tea towel again tucked into his jeans waist as he read from the recipe book. His hair was damp from being outside and his hands still tingled from the cold. He'd heard Daniel mutter something about going for a shower and tried to keep his mind off the image of the suds over that body.

Daniel made a scuffle sound as he entered the kitchen so Jack turned. He had two ways of reacting to the sight before him. He was either going to drop the jar of spice in his hand or he was going to grip it tighter. He did the latter. So tight it almost shattered in his vice-like grip.

Daniel looked down at the fluffy burgundy towel around his waist then up at Jack. He was sure the Colonel had reacted to him in just the towel, but his mind told him he was just 'wishful' thinking - again!

"I seem to have forgotten my deodorant.." Daniel shrugged. Jack put the spice jar down as he nodded, then his trembling hand knocked over the jar as he released it, sending spice all over the bench top.

"Shit," he muttered as he wiped it up again. Daniel took one step closer to him.

"Everything okay?" he asked. Jack nodded and wiped his hand on the tea towel then he flung his hand in the general direction of the bathroom and said, "sure, use mine.."

Daniel nodded. As he headed down that hall he tried to convince himself that Jack's fumbling was due to him being half dressed, but then his little Voice of Insecurity piped up again. 'why would you being half naked turn *anyone* on? Especially someone as gorgeous as Jack'. Daniel sighed as he reached into the bathroom cupboard and grabbed the can of spray. He noticed the pack of condoms sitting on the top shelf and sighed, wishing they had cause to use them. Jack brought him out of his thoughts.

"Find it?" he asked, seeing Daniel react to the condoms. The young man nodded.

"Here!" He held the can up and then sheepishly looked at Jack, obviously embarrassed to be discovered looking at the condoms.

What? Jack wondered, didn't Daniel think the colonel had sexual relations? Judging by his reaction, Jack thought the answer was no.

"I have better stuff.." Jack said, then slowed down as Daniel turned towards him, "in the bedroom..." he finished softly. Daniel looked at the can in his hand then back at Jack.

"Whatever." He shrugged. Jack nodded and headed to his room, glad to hear that Daniel had followed behind him. Last night seeing Daniel in his room gave him a great dream, but the opportunity to see a half naked Daniel in his room tonight would give him even better ones...

"Here-" Jack handed him the better stuff. Daniel took it and lifted his arm over his head, Jack admiring the tuft of dark hair that showed as he did this. Four quick squirts and Daniel had handed it back to him again, thanked him and left the room. Jack sat back onto his bed, head in hands, pants growing tighter by the second. He sighed. Get a grip, he told himself. Daniel was going out on a date and he was getting a hard on?

= 6:45 p.m. =

Jack was sitting in front of the television watching a game and eating his dinner. He looked up as Daniel came to the top step. He lowered his fork for fear of spearing his tongue with it as he ogled Daniel, dressed in a black suit, blue shirt and tie, hair just right and hands casually shoved into pockets. Ye Gods, but could this guy get any better looking?

"You're off then?" Jack asked casually, surprised and grateful that his voice was level. Daniel nodded.

"Yeah, I'm not sure when I'll be back.." he said softly. Jack figured he meant he'd be out all night so just shrugged.

"Well, have a good time then," he said, putting a forkful of food in his mouth in the vain attempt it made him look casual and disinterested in the stunning man at the top of his steps.

"Could I get.. " Daniel asked softly and Jack turned to him, his head tilted as he frowned.  "A key..?"

So he didn't intend to be out all night? Jack got up and headed over to the desk in the corner of the room. He pulled out a drawer and picked up a small set of keys. Turning back to Daniel he swore the guy was standing too close on purpose, but he was just dreaming. Daniel held his hand up and Jack reached around and placed the bundle onto the soft palm. He flicked his eyes up at the man, standing just behind his left shoulder and smelling so good.

"Nice aftershave.." He mentally kicked himself for that comment but it made Daniel smile.

"Really?"

He noticed my aftershave! Daniel's heart was doing a little happy dance.

Jack was still nodding and still staring at Daniel's smile. He flicked his eyes up to look into the blue eyes, his mouth moved slightly but nothing came out. Daniel held the stare a few moments then felt that Jack was about to challenge him for the stare so he looked down at the keys as he slowly closed his hand around them.

"Thanks. I hope I don't wake you..." he said quietly. Jack still had to stop his mind from screaming 'take him, he's right there!' and answer the question somehow.

"Wake me.. ? Oh.. no.." he muttered. Daniel felt the heat rise within his body now. He was so close to Jack and the guy didn't seem to mind, in fact he seemed to be losing thought a little, or was that more 'wishful thinking' - it probably was... He moved and made another of his accidental body brushes, this time he managed to rub the entire front of Jack as he walked past him. Jack's brain started screaming louder at him, but he was starting to tremble with the effort of not reacting.

Daniel headed up the steps and stopped to pull on his calf length black coat. Jack melted. Shit, he looked great! He instantly hated whoever it was Daniel was going to see even more now! As he gripped the front door knob, Daniel looked over his right shoulder and smiled at Jack, who was standing by his desk still, still staring at him. God, Jack looked great in the flickering light of candles and open fire. Daniel almost wanted to stay at home now, but he'd made plans already.

"Oh!" Jack suddenly pulled himself from his thoughts and headed down the hallway. Daniel frowned when he returned from the bathroom. Jack reached down and lifted Daniel's hand again (any excuse to touch him, he figured!) and the younger man looked down at the two white plastic packs now in his hand.

Jack tried to hide his mixture of disappointment and jealousy with that action. He wanted to convince himself he had a grip on this relationship, or whatever it was Daniel was having, with this other person. He needed to do this, and then perhaps Daniel wouldn't be suspicious of him - if he was at all.

"I saw you looking at them and thought, perhaps you might have needed..."

"Oh, I see," Daniel nodded.

"And you might have felt a little awkward asking for them..."

"Yeah, I would have, thanks.. though.." He curled his fist around them now and smiled at Jack.

So this was Jack's idea of a date? Dinner then getting laid? Daniel didn't want his disappointment to show so he tried to look appreciative of the gesture. If he ever harboured any serious thoughts about him and Jack getting together, they were quashed now. He and Jack obviously had different agendas as far as this sort of thing went.

Daniel flicked his blue eyes up to meet the soft stare of the colonel. Wetting his lips absently, the anthropologist pushed the packs into his pocket and gave Jack a smile. A mixture of sadness, disappointment and genuine gratitude was in that smile.

"Night, Jack," he said softly. Jack nodded and wet his lips quickly.

"Night...... Danny.." hH watched the vision walk out the door, momentarily unable to move. It wasn't until he heard the car pull out of the drive way could Jack remonstrate himself for encouraging Daniel in that way. He wondered what stupid part of his brain went on holiday right at the wrong time. Why had he condoned the relationship? Some lucky girl was going to lay between those thighs tonight because Colonel Jack O'Neill handed Daniel some condoms. And not only did the bitch get lucky with his anthropuppy once, but twice!

*Oh, you are just way too clever sometimes, Jack O'Neill * he remonstrated himself. Jack tried to shake the image of Daniel making love to a woman, his body sweaty, his legs draped over hers, her nails digging into his soft butt cheeks.. his lips full and pink as he stared with those incredible blue eyes down into the face he loved. It wasn't fair! He should have made his feelings more known!

= Sunday 1:30 a.m. =

Jack was asleep on the lounge when Daniel crept into the house, having removed his shoes already to prevent making any noise down the hallway. He saw the flickering television and headed into the loungeroom. Jack laid on the lounge, on his stomach, one hand caught under his chest while the other draped onto the ground next to him. Daniel smiled and squatted down next to him. He laid his hand gently on the colonel's back then resisted waking him for a moment. Instead he softly pushed some of Jack's short fringe off his face, enjoying the opportunity to stare at and caress that wonderful face. An opportunity he knew he'd never get again.

This weekend had so much potential, and Daniel had half heartedly promised himself he'd try to let Jack know how he felt about him, but the opportunity just never arose. It had boiled down to the fact that if Jack had asked him about a girlfriend he was merely going to tell him he didn't have one, and for a very good reason. But Jack never asked.

In fact, he had assumed that Daniel was like him. Straight. And handing him those condoms proved that theory. Jack expected Daniel to do what *he'd* do on a date; and part of Daniel's brain suggested inviting Jack on a date then, if that was his usual result. Despite himself, Daniel smiled at that thought. But only for a moment until he looked down at that sleeping face again. Then he sighed. His hand gently brushed back a few more strands of hair.

"Oh, Jack," he sighed softly as he scanned the sleeping face. The brow, so often furrowed in question or disbelief was at peace, his lips slightly parted, his cheeks rosy. He looked gorgeous. Daniel wondered if Jack would wake if he stole a kiss. But what was the point of that? Kissing Jack with no response wasn't what Daniel wanted. He wanted him keen and eager and interested... but that wasn't going to happen. So he contented himself with just kneeling there next to him, his fingers so lightly stroking the skin and side burns that even Daniel wasn't aware he had been doing it, while he stared at that gorgeous face. He tried to convince himself that perhaps Jack had feelings for him too. Some of the things Jack had said and done this weekend *could* have been indications that he was interested... but it was so hard to tell.....

Oh, who was he kidding? Jack wasn't even interested enough to ask him who he was going out with that night, so he hardly cared what he got up to therefore. Had he asked he'd have known Daniel had taken Sam out to dinner, then he went back to her place to talk about his ever-growing attachment to their colonel. Sam was great. She knew, in fact she pointed out to Daniel how much the colonel fitted everything he wanted in a partner. Not that Daniel hadn't been sexually attracted to Jack since the moment he sat in this very loungeroom the night he returned from Abydos, but he had no way of telling the straight-laced officer. Sam gave Daniel the opportunity to fantasize though. She managed to make Daniel a giggle puddle of wet goo when he talked about Jack, and he could speak openly about what he wanted to do to their colonel and her reactions always encouraged him. And Daniel loved her all the more for that.

Jack moaned softly and called Daniel's name under his breath. Sensing that the colonel knew he was there Daniel whispered quietly, "shh, it's okay, go back to sleep."

"Don't want to sleep.." Jack muttered, almost incoherently. Daniel realised now that he was talking in his sleep.

"Shhh, come on, you should go to bed.." he whispered.

Jack rubbed his face against the cushion he was using as a pillow then muttered, as he snuggled into it again, "join me..."

Daniel swallowed hard. Oh God, what he'd give to join him, but he knew Jack was asleep.

"Jack, " he called a fraction louder now. The colonel jerked awake.

"Danny!" He sighed as he slumped back onto the pillow. Daniel smiled at the crinkled face.

"You should be in bed..." he said, putting his hand on Jack's shoulder now.

"I couldn't sleep.." Jack mumbled. Daniel smiled.

"Worried about me, huh?" he laughed. Jack's eye opened as he looked at the younger man. He could say anything and pretend, in the morning, that he was either drunk or sleeping.

"Not really." Jack started to sit up, reality preventing him from telling Daniel how he felt. Daniel sat back and looked at Jack as he tried to keep his eyes open. They looked so dopey and dark, and Daniel thought he'd turn into a puddle of goo again just looking at Jack. Slowly the older man looked at Daniel.

"You just get in?" He looked at his watch. Daniel nodded.

"Must've been a good dinner," Jack remarked through a yawn.

"It was.." Daniel shrugged.

Jack hated that person even more now as he rubbed his face and tried to look at Daniel out of the corner of his eye. The guy looked great still, even better than before because now he also looked a little ruffled.. like he'd... perhaps.. made out? Jack got up and headed down the hall to the bathroom. Daniel sighed as he sat on the sofa. Slowly he laid down, putting his head on Jack's makeshift pillow, inhaling the scent of the other man. Gripping himself in a tight cuddle Daniel groaned softly. Such a waste of opportunity but as Sam agreed, telling Jack at the wrong moment could ruin the friendship they have already. He heard the toilet flush then the sound of Jack's bedroom door shutting. He closed his eyes slowly.

= 11:45 a.m. =

Daniel blinked his eyes awake and looked around the loungeroom. He took a moment to adjust to where he was. Everything was on its side and he couldn't recognise any of it. If he had the energy, he could lift his face up and have a good look around, but he still lacked that spark, it was enough that his eyes were open. He slowly came to recognise the familiar crack of the wood burning in the open fire place, the smell it gave off, warm and comforting to Daniel. There was a radio playing, rather loudly, from another room in the house and every now and then Jack could be heard singing along to the song.

Daniel blinked as he laid there realising that he'd spent the night on the sofa and then he secretly cursed Jack for leaving him there. He'd had the decency to wake Jack to send him to bed, then he fell asleep himself .. stupid! He closed his eyes slowly. Jack really didn't care about him too much...

Suddenly, Jack jumped down into the loungeroom, mid dance as he scooted around the room, wiggling his butt to the loud music from the kitchen, arms flinging around as he played his air guitar. Daniel didn't say a thing, instead he just enjoyed the show. Jack spun around then did a double look as he noticed Daniel sitting up on the sofa gradually.

"Oh, so you're awake now?" Jack grinned.

*Gods, he was gorgeous,* Daniel thought.

"Well, I didn't want to miss the show-" He laughed softly. Jack nodded then bent down and picked up a coffee cup off the floor.

"What's the time?" Daniel asked.

"Little before twelve. Want some lunch?" Jack asked and smiled when the anthropologist nodded. " Great, I've cooked up some stuff, I can reheat it for you...."

Daniel got to his feet, stumbling a little then looking down. At some time in the night or morning, Jack had placed a comforter over him. *Well, Danny boy, perhaps he cares a little more than you think!*

"You cook a lot," Daniel said, picking up the quilt and placing it back on the sofa.

"My second favourite thing in life," the colonel shrugged. A sweet smile curled up the corners of Daniel's mouth as he followed Jack to the kitchen.

"What's the first?'

"Astronomy.." The older man shrugged. Daniel raised his brow, then he reached out his hand and took the plate Jack offered him. Jack grinned as Daniel frowned at the amount of food on the plate then with a nod of his head, he invited the scientist to follow him to the next room. Daniel did as he was told and Jack got the opportunity to see the crumpled suit. Why did that make him think of ravishing the guy? Daniel loosened the tie even more as he headed to the table, stumbling a little over his own feet. Jack caught him then he casually started to remove Daniel's tie for him.

Not because he needed to, but because he wanted to. He realised last night that he had the perfect opportunity to at least make Daniel *aware* of how he felt, and they had a good chance of getting to know each other better. But he was wasting it. He was nervous and awkward around the guy and Daniel was probably thinking he wasn't welcomed. So Jack was going to make a conscious effort to be more relaxed around Daniel. Besides, the advice Sam had given him this morning when he rang her in a fit of dribble over the 'god on his lounge' was met by his blond work mate with a giggleand advice to just relax and be himself around him and if Daniel was 'that way inclined' Jack's winning personality would just 'win' him over. Jack had thanked her for the advice and hung up before Daniel woke. He loved Sam for accepting him for what he was.

Jack thought about what to do and he always thought best with loud music so he had cranked up the radio in the kitchen, and as he cleaned the kitchen he danced and tried not to think about the 'god on his lounge'. He was feeling really good right about now and Daniel's smile added to his mood.

Looking down at the food, Daniel asked, "wanna go out for lunch instead?"

He had caught Jack off guard with that suggestion, and Jack wasn't sure if he should be insulted that Daniel had shunned his food, or happy that he was going out with Daniel. He decided to enjoy the opportunity and nodded enthusiastically.

"Yeah, where?"

Daniel shrugged. "There's a nice little place by my apartment block.." he suggested. Jack's mind thought quickly. Near his apartment? That would mean he'd go home straight afterwards. NO! No good.

"There's a place on Maple Street. It's kinda nice," Jack offered, knowing that it was clean over the other side of town to where Daniel lived. The scientist lifted his brow then nodded.

"Okay," He headed to the shower. Jack smiled even more as he headed back into the kitchen again, taking Daniel's untouched plate with him. He sniffed at the food then shrugged as he tipped it into the bin.

He was just wiping the bench down when he turned around and saw Daniel in the doorway, dressed in a towel again. The sweet smile on his face indicated he wanted Jack's deodorant again. Jack laughed and shook his head.

"I swear you're walking around here half naked to distract me," the colonel muttered as he pushed past him and headed towards his room. Daniel cocked his head to the side and smiled. Did Jack mean that as it sounded? He followed him to the room.

"Here!"Jack tossed him the can and watched as Daniel lifted his arm again.

"I really appreciate this," he said.

Jack nodded, "not as much as I am," then he shrugged as he left the room.

Daniel frowned. Jack making these little comments then walking away from him was driving him crazy! He couldn't get a handle on how the colonel meant them. If he meant them or if he was just being flippant.

= 12:30 p.m. =

Jack waited for Daniel by the front door and silently gasped as the guy stood in the hall, cream cable knitted jumper over denim jeans. He looked up and smiled at the smile on Jack's face.

"What?" he asked, looking down at the front of himself. Jack shook his head.

"Ready?" he asked. Daniel nodded, checking for his wallet.

"I'll buy," Jack said, seeing the movement.

"Why?" Daniel frowned. Jack shook his head.

"No reason, just wanna buy you lunch, any problem with that?" the older man asked, as he headed out to his car. Daniel stood at the door, smiling to himself as he shrugged, then he jogged down the front steps and followed Jack to the cars, stopping when Jack stopped at his own car. They both turned to see Daniel's car parked in behind Jack's.

"I'll drive then." Daniel smiled, vapors pouring out of his mouth as he laughed softly. Jack smiled at the red tinge already burning Daniel nose and cheeks, making him look even more adorable, if that was at all possible.  Jack held his hand out, in a show towards the car and then they headed back to Daniel's and got in.

"Shit, it's cold!" Jack shivered and he and Daniel both reached forward to switch on the heater, their hands colliding at the button. Daniel smiled as Jack pulled his away quickly.

"Sorry!" The colonel shivered, then slipped his hands between his own denim clad thighs to warm them.

Daniel shrugged and cranked up the heater, then he flung his hand behind Jack's seat, twisting to look over his shoulder as he slowly backed out of the drive. Jack stole a moment to stare at Daniel's turned face, now so close to him. God, his eyes were so blue! Wow, funny but he'd never noticed the small mole on Daniel's cheek before, then again he couldn't remember being this close before either. You know, he could almost kiss him from here....

Daniel's eyes quickly flicked over and caught Jack staring at him. Instead of commenting, which Jack was expecting, the younger man simply smiled. Jack smiled too then rubbed his eye with his finger as he turned to look out of his side window. Daniel, having reached the end of the drive now, straightened up and started to pull out onto the road. Jack sighed as he straightened up in his seat and looked out of the front window while Daniel threw the car into first gear and stepped on the gas.

Jack tried not to look at Daniel's thighs as he drove, but he couldn't resist. There was nothing sexier to Jack that the sight of a man's thighs as he drove a stick shift; all that leg movement, all that clutching down, and braking.. ... long legs.. slender... the thighs stretching the denim seductively.....

Jack lifted his eyes and saw Daniel looking at him. They'd stopped at lights. *Ooops*

"So, you had a good night last night then?" he tried to change the subject quickly. Daniel shrugged as he turned his face away briefly to check for oncoming traffic as he pulled around the corner despite having the green light.

"It was a lot of fun. I took a friend to dinner," he said as he concentrated on the road ahead. Jack nodded, looking at Daniel from the corner of his eyes. Well, that was promising... a *friend*

"Where did you end up?" he asked nonchalantly, his eyes drifting down to the thighs once more, watching as Daniel pressed the gas a little harder to make it up the slight hill in the road.

"Luigis. Been there?" Daniel asked but by the groan by Jack as soon as he mentioned the name he knew he had.

"Hell, only the home of the best pasta in the land!" Jack smiled and nodded. Daniel grinned at the enthusiastic response.

"We should go one night," he tried to sound casual, and waited for Jack's refusal. It was one of the most expensive restaurants in town, and it was a very romantic place, candle light and soft music. It was full of couples, but Daniel had noticed families and same sex diners in there last night.

"I'd like that," Jack said. Daniel did a double take then smiled.

"Great.." He went back to concentrating on the road, while Jack went back to concentrating on his legs, watching as they moved whenever he clutched down, how his foot hovered on the gas pedal, how his other leg tucked up when not needed to clutch down... how the tight cloth made those thighs look so god-damned bitable...

=3:45 p.m. =

Jack laughed as he and Daniel entered the house again. Tossing his keys onto the dining table Jack headed to the phone. There were two messages; one for Daniel to tell him his house was ready, the other was Sara again.

Daniel blinked as he heard the woman's strained voice, obviously holding back tears. Jack bowed his head as he listened to her speaking softly, then he hit the replay button again, trying to catch some of the message he'd missed. Daniel took the chance to slip into the kitchen, giving Jack some privacy.

Staring out the window Daniel folded his arms across his chest and bit his bottom lip as he thought about his colonel. A man, once a father and a husband, and now just the epitome of everything Daniel wanted in a partner. He quickly glanced out to the loungeroom, seeing Jack on the phone, his head bowed, his leg bent a little against the table as he tugged on the phone lead while he talked. Daniel looked away as Jack started to look around. He didn't want him thinking he was listening. Daniel sighed and went over to the coffee maker, refilled it then he headed out to the bathroom.

Jack hung the phone up and bit his bottom lip thoughtfully.

"Everything okay?" came the soft voice from the top of the steps. Jack looked up and nodded, but Daniel could see the pain in his eyes. "Sure?" He frowned, and bore his blue eyes into Jack.

The colonel wet his bottom lip quickly then nodded. "She's.. she's going to her sister's for a few days," he shrugged. Daniel nodded and stepped aside to let Jack past.

"You want a coffee?" he asked as Jack got level with him. The older man stopped and turned to him. Daniel's brow furrowed slightly when he saw the look on Jack's face. Slowly the officer shook his head and continued down the hall, going to his room and shutting the door.

Daniel hugged himself again, then looked around the room. Perfect time to go, he thought. Heading towards the bedroom again he heard a forlorn sigh through the door before he knocked softly.

"Yeah," came the throaty response. Daniel poked his head into the room.

"I should go," he said. Jack headed out of the bathroom and looked at him.

"Please..."

Daniel nodded, thinking Jack was saying: please, yes go...

"No, " Jack said, "please.. stay.." He frowned a little.

Daniel lifted his brow and pushed his glasses up his nosenervously. "If that's what you .. want.." he said, sounding like he thought Jack would be better off alone.

"It's...." Jack nodded, then tilted his head a little, "yeah, it's what I need..."

Daniel inhaled and nodded, giving Jack a quick grin. The colonel mumbled a thanks and ushered him from the bedroom.

"You can help me get some more wood..." he smiled as they headed back towards the kitchen. Daniel nodded.

"Okay, let's do it now, before it gets too dark," he said, going straight to the back door. Jack smiled, this time a real smile. He liked it that Daniel was so comfortable there.

"And later," Jack said, catching up to his friend as he headed to the drying room, "I'll show you the stars..."

Daniel looked up, squinting at the dull grey sky above them. "Will there be any stars tonight?" he asked, still looking up.

*I wish!* Jack thought to himself then smiled. As Daniel looked down again, Jack unlocked the door.

"There's always stars, Danny, you just got to know where to look for them," he winked.

Daniel smiled and followed Jack into the little room.
