So, what is it about these two men that just 'clicks' with me?

To be honest, I don't know!  They just work so well together, they bounce off each other so well, they have this unsaid but HUGE level of care for each other that just screams off the screen at me.  Both men are attractive and the fact that they say the same thing at the same time, can finish each others sentences and just have this way of communicating with a 'look' between them, well.. it's damn sexy! 

There, I guess I did know after all! LOL..   

Of all the slash pairings of the SG-1 team, this is my favourite. 

When I started watching SG-1 the last thing on my mind was slash. In fact, I didn't even know what slash was, and I'd never read a single word on it.  I had written a lot of romantic stories for another sci-fi show called SLIDERS but nothing graphic there either. 

But after watching the enthusiasm with which Jack hugged Daniel in "Serpent's Lair" I started thinking, "oh man, those two look so good together!"  Up until that point I was totally for Daniel and Sha're (and still prefer this pairing over Daniel with any other female - especially Kira [shudders most violently at that thought].  But then I started re-watching episodes with a new 'slant' to the subtext and sure enough, episode after episode, it seemed to be there.  I must say that I usually watch the episode for the first time with no preconceived ideas and certainly not looking for slash angles but on second or third viewing, it's usually there.

But I can also see the friendship as purely friendship... and it's a wonderful, touching loyalty  between them.  When Daniel asks Jack, "So this whole friendship thing we've been working on for the past few years...?" only to hear it get denied..... it's heartbreaking!  Truly!   Daniel is so shattered that Jack has turned from him.  And he's hesitant to forgive him readily too.  The comments between them, that it meant a lot to Jack that it was Daniel that came to see him.. was soooo sweet!  And the retort from Daniel was soooo perfect!!  LOL While a wonderfully humorous moment (as these two often pull off!) it's also got a sad undercurrent..

This man, Daniel, has lost most everybody in his life that he cares about.  His parents, his wife, his grandfather.... the SG-1 is his family now.  Sam is his sister, Teal'c his big brother and Jack.. well..   Jack is his lifeline - to an extent.  He's certainly Daniel's best friend in the series.. and that's wonderful. The sparks between them; the dry, witty banter; the fact that Daniel won't put up with Jack's shit for too long, is indicative that he tolerates it all because he loves him. 

It seems to me that Daniel is not a character that opens up to others, but the crusty old Colonel has reached a part in this younger man that no one else seems to have.  It's from there that a slash relationship can be formed....  I'd truly love to see one episode that can carry off the slash aspect.   We've seen the Sam/Jack aspect done to death, let's hear it for the boys now.   STARGATE SG-1 is  a leading show in most areas for tv series, I think it would be nice to see a homosexual relationship portrayed honestly and sincerely on the screen.   I'm not talking about getting 'our' Jack and Daniel together as I firmly believe *any* relationship within that team would ruin the show.. but alternates are a good cop out.   How many alternates of Jack/Sam do we have to suffer through - for crying out loud!?

Nothing limpish either. I'd love to see the men as strapping and exactly the same as they are in our reality, it's just that they go home to each other every night.  If the writers don't think they can pull it off.. ask a slash writer (or even me! I'm a trained scriptwriter after all). Personally, I think Kathryn Powers could do it, she's written some lovely JackDaniel's episodes.
