W.B. Wooten of the 42nd Mississippi Infantry Regiment
Billy J. Jackson, Commander of the Samuel R. Watkins Camp #29 states,
"W.B. Wooten is wearing what's commonly called a "battle shirt"... The battle shirts were usually gray with a contrasting trim as seen in the photo and were made to be worn over another shirt, as the example does. Jackets were much too hot during the summer months so a lot of men had these made so they could still maintain a "uniform" appearance during the hotter months. This is a very good example of one. I have seen several and the differences in patterns are always neat to see."
