Telephones

In the thirties telephones were a box that hung on the wall.
You picked up the ear piece and turned a crank to make call.
There were four to eight families, on the same line.
If they were good neighbors, this worked out fine.

It may have been a bit primitive, and sometimes went wrong.
Your ring could be two shorts and a long.
I think in the cities, they were a little more up to date.
Still waiting for the line to clear could make you late.

Now you can even send pictures on your private phone.
As long you have your cell you are never alone.
You have a machine to answer your calls.
Of course you can carry your cell in your overalls.

The machines can tell when it gets your machine.
And leave you a message, which is very keen.
I really would rather not go back to the party line.
I will keep what I have, it does just fine.
