Shelf Paper Lid

My garbage can is in good condition.
Only the lid needs a little nutrition.
Using my extraordinary brain,
I came up with an idea to keep out the rain.

Shelf paper would surely do the trick.
It came with adhesive you didn’t have to lick.
I went to the store and bought a roll.
It looked as though it would meet my goal.

The repair was smooth and it didn’t leak.
I really hit a lucky streak.
It never occurred to me, it would be in the sun.
It wasn’t long until the glue was done.

The paper soon cracked and flapped in the breeze.
No big deal, I thought, It’ll come off with ease.
It came off the lid, I would say easy, if you were to ask.
Then to get it off my hands was another task.

They must have used bandaid glue.
I would pull it off one finger and have it on two.
I guess the lesson for today.
When your lid wears out, throw it away.
