Ode To A Standby
My alarm sounded at about three forty-five
I opened my eyes and seemed barely alive.
I climbed out of bed and washed my face
Got in the car and Joined the race.
I arrived at the terminal and went inside,
Only to find the flight had been canceled,
should I take it in stride.
What else could I do but wait?
I listed for the next flight went to the gate.
There I waited and watched as it left without
me.
The next flight did the same, Yes-sir-ree.
I wasn’t discouraged as there were more.
I caught the next flight and arrived in Dallas
after four.
The flight to Ontario was a little late.
But that was alright as I waited at the wrong
gate.
We finally took off into the sky.
I seemed relieved but I don’t know why,
As I check my luggage back at K. C.
I wondered when I arrived where it would be.
I arrived in Ontario about 8:15
My luggage was nowhere to be seen.
No need to fear
As my luggage was near.
My brother found an agent and told her my
plight.
I really had no reason for such fright.
As she brought my bag from room quite small.
So I had no reason to worry or fret at all.
I spent two week with my brother and sister.
The flight back home went well, without even so
much as a blister.
