National Geographic CD-Rom

Jacalyn C. Spoon

National Geographic magazine has been a favorite of generations. Beautiful award winning photographs, insightful articles read by millions of adults and children world wide. National Geographic brings the world to you, encouraging the understanding of cultures world wide. If the National Geographic in your library has been vandalized, leaving it look more like Swiss cheese than a periodical, the CD-Rom version may seem like a great alternative. If on the other hand, if you are looking to save space by replacing your paper issues with a CD-Rom, don’t do it. I was not impressed at all. On screen text was extremely difficult and often impossible to read on the 15” monitor I was using. The maps were not readable on screen or after printed. The best resolution possible was 300dpi. It was only possible to print two pages at a time. I cannot recommend replacing original good condition National Geographic print with the CD-ROM edition.
