My personal philosophy of librarianship

Jacalyn C. Spoon

September 7, 2002

Keywords:

Philosophy = any system of motivating concepts or principles

Librarian = custodian of a library

Knowledge = the state of knowing

Wisdom = sound judgment and application of knowledge

Enlightenment = possession of knowledge and truth

Scholarship = the mastery of my area (librarianship)

My quest for truth, freedom, and happiness motivated me to my library career. My quest for wisdom, enlightenment, and scholarship motivate me through my career in librarianship. Knowledge is the primary tool in a fight against ignorance, oppression, and dishonesty. Information is necessary to gain knowledge. To educate others, orderly, accessible information is necessary. Through librarianship I assist in the education of others and thus promote wisdom, enlightenment and scholarship in all people.
