| Chico was adopted from the Humane Society of North Texas February 1988. He was 8 weeks old and had been found in a yard in a very bad area of Ft Worth. By the time he was 10 weeks he was housebroke, knew sit, stay and turn around (he would do a 360). At 9 months he won his first of 14 first place ribbons for most talented pet. He could ride my scooter with me, ride piggyback, wave, hug, respond to spelling of down, say (speak), and kiss, respond to hand signals, dance, jump thru a hoop, high five, catch a treat from off of nose, balance a toy on his nose, and play dead after sniffing a shoe. This was just the tip of the iceberg for this incredible dog who later became known as Chico the wonder dog. At home he would bring me shoes, a pen, the t.v. guide, his leash and ring a bell to go outside, and leash trained our Rotti puppy, Hannah, by pulling on her leash. He was featured on several T.V. shows and made a video for Humane Society charity. At 11 years he contracted liver disease, and hypothyroidism and became blind. After alot of great vet care he is still going strong. Though blind, At 12 he came in 2nd at the Beggin Strips regional talent show. He is proof that the best dogs come from the shelters. On April 25, 2002 I had to have him put to sleep due to his failing health. I and 5 of my very close friends were with him as he passed over. I miss him terribly as do the many, many people that grew to know him and love him. His memory will forever live on in everyone's hearts. |

| Mom, I know that your heart is heavy now, and heaven knows I miss you too, but I thank you for having the courage to do what you had to do. I'll admit that I was scared at first but now all my fears are gone, cause this place I'm at is awesome and I see that I'm not alone. Lot's of old friends, long since passed were here to help me cross into a place where failed eyes see and hearing is never lost. Into a place that knows no pain where old is made brand new. Oh Mom, I love this heaven place, and Mom, I love you, too. Have no regrets, my life was great. You made everything so right. Remember when its your time to pass I'll be waiting in the light. | The picture above is Chico at his 2nd birthday party. I sent out Pound Puppy invitations and asked all gifts to be donations to The Humane Society of North Texas. |
| The poem was written by a very good friend of mine the day after Chico passed. |
