One of the problems in every community, not just mine, is illegal street racing. Every night you hear the loud engines racing on the streets. Unfortunately, most of those races end with a loud boom, the sound of the sirens. Street racing is a very dangerous game and most of the racers know that. Many of those racers are just teenagers who are trying to show off with their cars, they want to show people that they are not afraid. In this game the winners win money and gain reputation, while the losers drive back home to boost up their performance for the next race. When you are a little kid and you see someone speeding down the street you think it's cool, than you grow up and do the same thing. Teenagers watch a lot of television, and that's where they get their ideas. I think it's a serious problem because a lot of people die during street racing. Those kinds of races cause a lot of accidents in which innocent people, the pedestrians, other drivers and most of the times the racers themselves die.
This is a serious problem in my community because I live next to a lot of busy roads. At night those roads become raceing tracks. There is a road called Archer. On that road there has been a lot of racing going on and a lot of people have died. This year two of our seniors died in an accident. The driver was drunk and he was speeding. The two passengers died and the driver ran away, nobody knows where he is now.
Some things are being done in my community to address this problem. There are more cops on the streets, especially on weekends. The laws are getting tougher. Aldermen are installing speed bumps on the streets. Police put cameras on the lights, to see who is speeding and to see who drives on red light, to see who is speeding and to see who drives past red lights. These are some things being done to decrease street racing. Some roads where there is a lot of racing going are getting closed. In some cities there are special track for teenagers and not only to race. |
