EDUCATION

Jason graduated with his second major in the Bachelor’s of Social Work Program (BSW) at the University of British Columbia (UBC).

Jason has already obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts at UBC.
In 2001, he majored in Psychology and minored in Sociology.

Jason attended Eric Hamber Secondary School from 1994-1996.
Previously, he attended Prince of Wales Secondary School from 1992-1994.

Jason completed his last intern placement at Purdy Pavilion, the extended care facility at UBC Hospital. He followed the mentorship of Robert Toren. Previously, he was at Banfield Pavillion, an extended care facility at Vancouver Coastal Health's Vancouver General Hospital. He was mentored by Sheela McLean.

Jason volunteered as a social worker with C.H.I.U.S. (Community Health Initiative by University Students) at the Downtown Community Health Centre. Recently, he recieved the 2005-2006 CHIUS award for volunteering more than 40 hours in one school year. He also was the recipient of the UBC A.M.S. 2006 "Just Desserts" award for his contribution to the School of Social Work community as the CHIUS Social Work Representative.

Jason also helped to initiate the Eden Alternative project for Youville Residence, a contracted Residential Care facility in his neighbourhood.

Recently, Jason has just completed Pacific Spirit Community Health Centre's Addiction Services Education Series.

Jason also participated in the College of Health Disciplines' Health Care Team Challenge for 2005. Two interdisciplinary teams are presented with a case study before a live audience. Each team collaborates to answer a question, one by one, unveiled by a live speaker. Photos are here.

During the Summer of 2005, Jason took the IHHS (Interdisciplinary Health Science) Palliative Care Program at St. Paul's Hospital, a division of Providence Health Care. Course Instructors were Dr. Susan Caddell (Sowk), Dr. Jacky Fraser (MD), Jack DeSilva (Pharm), and Pat Porterfield (Nurs)

Prior to this, Jason had be doing his third year BSW placement at Burnaby Hospital Social Work Department, a division of Fraser Health Authority. His two main mentors were Augusta Lokhorst and Marisa Tuzi.

During his UBC Psychology undergrad, Jason interned for Dr. Deborah Giaschi’s at B.C. Children’s Hospital. He helped coordinate Dyslexia research at the Visual Neuroscience Lab. Supervisors: Danielle Prevost and Pamela Paul.

As well, during this time Jason’s grandfather, Tung Yen Lui, suffered a stroke that disabled the functioning of the body’s left side; Incontinent and Immobile. Home support was put in place, but obviously assistance was limited. Consequently, a lot of home care resided on Jason. This provided valuable experience and exposure to the health care services at a young age.

While still in High School, Jason volunteered over 150 hours in the Extended Care Unit (ECU) at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Heather site. The facility is now closed down and re-opening as a Facility called the "Campus of Care".
