| When The Sun Goes Down-Kenny Chesney | ||||||
| Kenny Chesney returned in 2004 with his CD, When The Sun Goes Down. After the 3rd largest grossing tour of all music genres in 2003, big things should certainly be expected from this disc? So, does it live up to said expectations? There Goes My Life is the lead track on the CD. It's a slower song to start a disc with, but that does not matter. This song is great. The lyrics tell a wonderful story, and Kenny's vocal make it a huge success. Next up is I Go Back. This probably would've been the expected lead-off track because it's more upbeat, but that's not a problem. It's a good song that reminisces on things that Kenny's older crowd will probably relate to more than his younger crowd, but the younger crowd will still be able to understand the thought behind the song: "We all have a song that somehow stamps our lives." Uncle Kracker does guest vocals on this next track. When The Sun Goes Down, the title track, is one of those feel-good-about-summer songs. It's just a fun song. The Woman With You slows things down a bit. Kenny does a great job with this one, which could definitely be considered a tribute songs to the mothers out there who will give up their aspirations to be "the woman with you." This next song is quite possible Kenny's best song to date. Some People Change is Kenny's best writing of his career, and the vocals only add to this wonderful song. Anything But Mine is next up. It's probably one of the best tracks on the disc. It's one of those songs that really has the ability to grow on you after you listen to it a lot. You may not like it at first, but that's alright. If you give it a chance, this is a track that should be able to grab your interest. The title of this next track is an indication that this is just going to be a fun song about college life. Keg In The Closet is just that: it's a fun song that reminisces on Kenny's college experience, and it's something that many people will surely be able to relate to. When I Think About Leaving comes on next. Kenny talks his way through the verses, which is certainly a minus. Aside from that, it's a pretty good song with a good point for people in strained relationships. This next track makes a very interesting comparison. Being Drunk's A Lot Like Loving You is best explained by Kenny's song liner: "If you go out and drink a lot and wake up with a killer hangover, you swear you're never going to drink again...When you get your heart broken, the pain in your heart and gut seems to be never-ending, so you swear you're never going to love again." Even if you've never been drunk or had your heart broken, you can probably understand that comparison. Outta Here is the shortest track on the CD. There's nothing wrong with short though...this is another song that's got enjoyable music and is easy to sing along to. It's just a fun song. The last track on this disc is Old Blue Chair. Kenny says it himself...it seems odd that, of all the places he's traveled, his favorite place to be is this old blue chair on the beach. Odd or not, the song is good. FINAL ANALYSIS: As mentioned earlier, Kenny had the third largest tour in 2003, outselling artists such as 50 Cent. Kenny has left a permenant mark on both the country music industry and the music industry in general. This disc shows exactly why his tours sell so well...his music and lyrics are completely awesome. |
