Some definite trends appeared on the iPod playlist over 2006. The first and most obvious is the complete dominance of iPod plays of new artist Family Force 5. Between the two singles (Replace Me and Love Addict), the band racked up 1894 plays in '06. Taking into account the fact that four other songs from the disc made the 50 Most Played list (Nearly half of the disc), there was clear dominance by the band.

However, they were not the only band to show some dominating force. Dashboard Confessional is another band that managed to get two singles into the 10 Most Played, as well as a total of nine songs on the Top 50. And Mars Ill got four singles on to the list, with all four making the Top 20, and three of them hitting the Top 10. Motion City Soundtrack also got five singles into the Top 50.

Dierks Bentley's smash hit, Settle For A Slowdown, also had a big splash on the 50 Most Played list. Coming in at #3, it was one of only three tracks to break the 900 play barrier. Dierks got three songs on to the list, including another Top 15 track with Come A Little Closer, which managed to get consistent play throughout '06.

Overall, the year was clearly pretty diverse, with hip hop, alternative, rock, country and Family Force 5's undefinable genre (That the band refers to as "Crunk rock"). However, there were some clear trends that led to the list's final outcome.
