| Top 10 Albums Of 2006 Not From 2006 | ||||||
| #3: Vheissu by Thrice This disc is, quite simply, one of the most well-written rock discs to come along in years. Vheissu takes some great rock music stylings, mixes it with some solid vocal efforts, and puts that together with the key to the entire disc, lyrics that are simply spectacular. Image Of The Invivisible is an incredible opening track that sets the tone for the entire disc. For Miles, Like Moths To Flames and Of Dust And Nations are just some of the tracks that create an incredible atmosphere on this disc. Not a single track on this disc can be considered an off track. They all seem to fit together nicely while creating their own unique sounds. Vheissu is a disc that definitely shows off Thrice as a great rock music force. #2: Commit This To Memory by Motion City Soundtrack One of alternative music's "Ones To Watch" in 2006, MCS did not disappoint. Commit This To Memory is easily one of the catchiest discs on this list. Originally released in 2005, this disc offered some excellent singles. From the misleadingly upbeat Everything Is Alright to the somewhat toned down Feel Like Rain to the thoughtful Hold Me Down, and even to the find-out-what-it-stands-for-in-the-first-five-seconds L.G. FUAD, each single represents a different part of the disc. But it's not just the singles that are enjoyable. Together We'll Ring In The New Year and Resolution both offer listeners some awesome tracks, while tracks like Better Open The Door and Time Turned Fragile offer some more upbeat tracks to the disc and, at times, even a little bit of hopefulness. Overall, Commit This To Memory was a tough disc to top. So tough that only one disc managed to do so. #1: A Fever You Can't Sweat Out by Panic! At The Disco 2006's band that caused the biggest divide between fans and haters, Panic! At The Disco actually came into the scene late in 2005. I personally was turned on to Panic! right before they blew up (Liteally right before...it wasn't more than three weeks after I bought the disc that these guys were all over MTV and radio stations nationwide). And they truly became a band that people either loved or hated. There seems to be no middle ground with these guys. Around here, the verdict is that they are loved. And hey, why not? They've created an intriguing sound, intriguing videos, and they are pretty solid showmen. I Write Sins Not Tragedies put them on the video map, while The Only Difference Between Martyrdom And Suicide Is Press Coverage took control of radio (As well as showing just one example of how long a Panic! song title can be). Lying Is The Most Fun A Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off also offered solid single. Yet, like any great disc, it's not just the singles that made the disc. Every single track on this disc was impressive and boasted memorable lyrics, from Camisado's mentioning of the fact that You're a regular decorated emergency, to There's A Good Reason These Tables Are Numbered, Honey, You Just Haven't Thought Of It Yet's talk of how everything goes according to plan When you're in black slacks with accentuating off-white pinstripes...whoa-oh. A Fever You Can't Sweat Out truly made Panic! At The Disco one of 2006's biggest bands nationwide. The only question now is how well the sophomore disc will fare whenever it comes out. So there you have it. The 10 best discs I bought in 2006 that weren't released in 2006. It's truly a diverse collection of music (and poetry). Most genres are represented, and each disc offers it's own unique twist to the list. Each disc is definitely worthy of some recognition. #10-#4 #3-#1 |
