| This Type Of Thinking (Could Do Us In)-Chevelle | |||||||
| Chevelle has returned with their third mainstream release. Following the success of Wonder What's Next, the band hopes to continue producing music that gets people going. This Type Of Thinking (Could Do Us In), the latest release, contains only 11 tracks, but, if this band has proved anything before, it's that their music, no matter how many or how few songs, is quality music. The disc opens up with The Clincher, and, if it's any indication of the rest of the disc, then this disc is certainly going to be the disc that is the clincher when it comes to Chevelle's mainstream success. The driving guitar is put at the forefront, and it really makes the song what it is. An awesome opening song. Next up is Get Some. The driving guitar melody doesn't let up in this one either, and it makes for another absolutely awesome song. The guys of Chevelle, in these first two songs, have truly hit on a formula for their songs that works quite well. Vitamin R (Leading Us Along) is up next. While the title of Vitamin R may make some people scratch their heads, the song itself will get them banging their heads instead. Another great song. Now we come to Still Running. Yes, this is the same song that was on Chevelle's previous disc, and some may wonder why the same song is on these two discs. Well, after hearing this version, people may come to enjoy the song even more. The intro is awesome, and the music and vocals have been tweaked just a little bit. The tweaks are what was missing from this song on the last album, and it's really been elevated to a stand-out song instead of one that was just in the midst of some other good ones. Breach Birth is next, and, once again, it's a great song. Thus far on this disc, Chevelle can do no wrong, which is an awesome thing that will hopefully get them more fan support. Now we come to Panic Prone. This one is a very toned down song for Chevelle, but it works extremely well and is actually one of the best tracks on the disc. Now the guys are proving that, while guitar melodies that make you bang your head are awesome, there is much more to Chevelle than that. And so we move on to Another Know It All. it's back to the guitar-led hard rock melodies and screaming, but, as always, it's working quite well. This is yet another great song on an already awesome disc. Tug-O-War hits us next. The lyrics have a very cool point, and the music is still completely solid as it has been throughout the disc. This may not ever be a single of Chevelle's, but it is a great song nonetheless. Next up is To Return. This one is also a bit toned down, though not to the extent of Panic Prone. But, no surprises here...it may not be the best song on the disc, but it's certainly a great song. Emotional Drought comes to your ears next, and you are yet again treated to some more ear candy in musical form. There's really nothing that I can say about this one other than that it, like the rest so far, is awesome. The last track on this amazing disc is Bend The Bracket. This one is much like Panic Prone...very toned down and very deep. This is definitely one of the stand-out tracks on this disc. FINAL ANALYSIS: This disc will likely get much less recognition than it deserves. It is an absolute must-have addition to your music collection. Chevelle is back, and they're back with a vengeance. |
