The Face Of Love-Sanctus Real
Sanctus Real has become one of Christian music's bigger bands in recent years.  The first two discs were consistently strong in sales and airplay, and the songs provided were some of the stronger songs all-around compared to much of the Christian market.  Now the band returns with their third release, The Face Of Love.  And this disc is a bit different than the first two.  It's a bit...darker, for lack of any better term.  It is not a darker disc in the sense of being depressing lyrically or more heavy musically.  Instead, the disc is darker because of when and how the songs were written; during some of the most challenging and painful times in the band members' lives.

On songs like
Don't Give Up and We're Trying, this deeper, darker struggle is somewhat noticable, though both songs take a typically-Sanctus-Real positive spin on things.  Don't Give Up urges listeners (And any specific person it may have been written to) not to give up on the one real love because of the skewed worldview of love.  We're Trying calls out all people, stating We are liars and thieves, we're destroying the peace.  However, it then offers one small sliver of hope: But we're trying.  The track goes on to talk about believing that there is redemption for our screw-ups.

The lead single from the disc,
I'm Not Alright, also goes along with the "darker" thought.  The track discusses a world where it's taboo or looked down upon to say that something is wrong.  The chorus sums up both sides of the issue very well, stating that being broken inside evntually leads us around to God and what He has in store.  Benjamin, the disc's closing track, also follows along this train of thought.  It is a song filled with an intriguing mix of pain, hope and strength.  It is truly one of the disc's best tracks.

The title track is another of the disc's top tracks.
The Face Of Love is a bit more like songs of the first two discs.   It is a song of worship and reverance, discussing how people so often try to express God for our eyes and ears, but it is our heart that best describes Him to us because He is The Face Of Love.  It's a relatively simple track lyrically, but it is in this simplicity that this song truly shines.

Overall,
The Face Of Love is another solid release from Sanctus Real.  There are only one or two tracks that truly stand out as excellent songs, but the overall product has improved.  The struggles and trials faced while writing these songs truly paid off as the best all-around offering from Sanctus Real thus far in their career.
