| Sam's Town-The Killers | ||||||||
| 2004's Hot Fuss introduced the world to The Killers. The band burst on to the scene in 2004 with Somebody Told Me. However, it was the band's second single, Mr. Brightside, which truly took the band to new heights. Hot Fuss would end up reaching platinum status, making the band one of Las Vegas' biggest names in quite some time. The Killers now return with Sam's Town, looking to prove they are much more than a band that can only hit with one disc. The title track, Sam's Town, leads the disc off and seems to show off some more of the band's Vegas roots musically. The track could offer more lyrically, but seems to do well with the vocal and musical mixings. The same can be said about a lot of tracks on the disc, such as Bones, My List and the lead single, When You Were Young. The tracks offer a good sound as a whole, but are lacking a bit upon closer inspection, especially on the lyrical side of things. However, tracks like Bling (Confessions Of A King) and Read My Mind do manage to complete the package, and definitely put themselves forth as the highlights of the disc. Both tracks are great additions to the disc. Read My Mind, in particular, seems to be the disc's gem. Most of the disc, though, offers above average tracks that still leave you wanting more. For Reasons Unknown, Uncle Jonny and Why Do I Keep Counting? all are decent tracks that can hit just as easily as they can miss. Sadly, this seems to be the case throughout most of the disc. The tracks can hit at times and miss at others. Overall, Sam's Town can easily be described the same way the tracks can be: hit and miss. Aside from a few highlight tracks, most of the disc goes through streaks. There are moments of sheer genius, but they are followed up by moments of sheer boredom. It's an interesting combination that, in the end, offers an above average disc that still can easily be swept under the rug and forgotten about. |
