Please Come Home-Dustin Kensrue
Thrice is a band that has been one of the most underrated artists in the alternative music scene today.  Their last release, Vheissu, was an incredible mix of sounds that pleased the ear.  More importantly, the band released a disc of songs with writing talents the likes of which simply are not seen in popular music at the moment.  So it's no surprise that the fans the band does have are drawn in pretty heavily.  And, while those fans wait for a new Thrice project this year, the band's lead singer, Dustin Kensrue, offers his solo debut.

Please Come Home is a far cry from the music of his band.  Where Thrice is an alternative band teetering on the edge of hard rock, Kensrue's music is inherently folk/acoustic stuff.  But don't let that fool you into thinking that this somehow makes the disc inferior.  Quite the contrary, this simple style allows the lyrics to speak for themselves.  And, in this case, that's certainly not a problem.

Tracks like
I Knew You Before, Pistol, and I Believe simply have amazing lyrics that hit home with Kensrue's personal beliefs (I Believe, in particular, is a great testament to the Christian faith in his life).  The title track, Please Come Home, is definitely one of the disc's top tracks, deriving it's basis from one of Jesus' teachings in the gospels.  The track is basically a modern day telling of the story of the prodigal son.  Kensrue does an incredible job with the track and definitely offers one of the early gems of 2007.

Though the disc is just eight tracks long,
Please Come Home is entirely worth every penny spent on it.  Kensrue's simple style lets his lyrics do the talking, and they are telling an incredible story.  Though many of his fans may consider this a mere pre-cursor to an incredible Thrice disc (Which certainly isn't a bad thgouht), it is apparent that this man has an incredible talent that can shine in any arena, whether it be with a band or with just his acoustic guitar.
