Panic-MxPx
Punk music is dead.  You hear it a lot these days.  And, in some aspects, this is true.  The true art of what was originally called "punk" music is probably dead.  But punk music as a whole is not dead.  Artists like MxPx have kept the genre afloat in the last few years.  Now, the band returns with their eighth studio release, Panic.  Will this disc be able to continue the popularity of this group?

The lead single,
Heard That Sound, is a song that definitely gives hope to this disc.  Though certainly not one of MxPx's most profound songs ever (nor is it their greatest), it does it's job.  It's a track that will be able to get people interested in this disc.  And tracks like Wrecking Hotel Rooms and Call In Sick will continue to keep people interested, though both tracks take somewhat different paths musically and lyrically.

This disc is chock full of musical goodness.  Tracks like
Young And Depressed, The Story and Waiting For The World To End are tracks that will not only get your head banging and get you jumping around the room with solid music, but they are tracks that are definitely relatable to the crowd that MxPx caters to.  This is certainly one of the most impressive things about MxPx; that they have been able to create music that fits the mold of what people expect from them but are still able to keep it creative lyrically and musically.

And we haven't even touched on the best tracks on the disc yet.
The Darkest Places leads the disc off with a bang both musically and lyrically.  The music creates another track that will get you jumping around the room.  But what's most impressive are the lyrics on this track.  This one is basically a rally cry for Christians... "I'm shining my light on the darkest places/You know and I know/We have to face this now/We have to face this now."  It's a simple chorus but, along with the rest of the track, it creates a track that will get you ready to do something.  And then there is Late Again, definitely one of the most intriguing tracks ever put out in regards to the music.  Lyrically it's relatively simple, but it works.  But the music completely sets this track apart from the entire disc.  It's certainly a punk song, but it's a hymn-punk song.  Not only that, it's a hymn-country-punk song, complete with the choir on the chorus and a little bit of musical twang.  Hearing it described, it sounds completely absurd?  A punk song that has been mixed with country and is sung like a hymn?  Not possible.  Yet, not only is it possible, it is pulled off to perfection.  Late Again is, in my opinion, one of music's greatest triumphs throughout history.

Overall, this entire disc is superb.  MxPx continues to keep the punk music genre alive with
Panic.  They have created 14 great tracks on this disc.  This is bound to be one of the year's best discs.  This is one of those discs that should be added to everyone's collection.  It is definitely a solid disc that is well worth the money.
