Easter Sunday
Back
I'm on the computer at 6:52 AM on Easter Sunday morning.  I bet some people would consider that rather sacreligous (Can't say I know anyone personally who would, but there's so many crazies out there these days, someone is bound to write this off as a form of devil worship).  But I still have 35 minutes to kill.  I have to be to church at 7:30 for worship practice.  Three services, so I'll be at church 'til about 12:30 or 1, depending on who's there and how long I stay after third service is done to talk to them.  Either way, it's going to be a long day.

In reality, it's already been a very long day that's about to get longer.  I woke up around 9:30 (AM) yesterday and had a rather enjoyable "family fun" day (It was sporadic, which was awesome, and it truly was quite enjoyable).  Work was 5 to 10, then I came home.  Tried to go to sleep around 12:30 AM...and couldn't.  I was up 'til 3 before I finally decided that it just wasn't going to happen.  Since then, I've been sustaining myself on
Yo Momma, sporadic clips of Sportscenter (I actually caught the entire show, just through about three separate showings) and some online games (Brainball...seriously, what an awesome thought that is!).  Oh, and a 5:30 AM breakfast and 6:30 AM shower.

Anyway, it's Easter Sunday, like I said.  And, being the musical guy I am, I like to look at the musical aspects of it.  There is no shortage of songs that fit the Easter story (Considering the entire basis of Christian faith is this day, you have to figure there are a lot of songs at least based off the thought).  And that pleases me.  Why?  Because I've been asked to put together mix CDs each week for the church's services.  The worship pastor got a bit tired of having the same CD up there for two years, and having songs we were doing that morning get played before each service.  So, now I have (almost) free reign of what the church people shall hear before they hear the worship stuff.  No, sadly they won't hear any
Mars Ill or Deepspace 5 (First restriction: No hip hop), and there won't be any Underoath or As Cities Burn (Second restriction: No screaming music).  However, for this first go 'round, there is David Crowder Band, Shaun Groves, Chris Rice, Chris Tomlin, Sanctus Real and many others.  I even went so far as to include a track from Skillet, certainly something a bit edgier than the rest of the disc (However, the song, Savior, certainly seems to fit the day quite well).

This excites me.  There is so much great music out there,  and so many people don't know it's there.  People so often tend to stick to one genre of music, and that causes them to miss out on so many great songs.  With these discs, it is my goal to give a little something for everyone.  To introduce everyone in the church to at least one new artist they have never heard of before.  To have them fall in love with one artist that they previously didn't know existed.  It's a simple yet large task.  Like I said, people have their preferences.  It's very difficult to get out of a rut when you're stuck in one, especially with something as opinionated as musical taste.  I hope merely to be a body to climb out on and out of the rut.  I do not expect, nor is it my intention, to have everyone in the church fall in love with every band I put forth to them.  Somehow, I don't see Skillet or Sanctus Real connecting with the 80 plus crowd.  But with a teen to twenty-something?  There you go...a band you didn't know of before.  One that you can check out.

So, on this Easter Sunday, as I remember the resurrection of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, I also look forward to the what the future holds for His worshippers at Lakeside.  To what new things they will hear that glorify His name today, next week, the week after, and further down the line.  And I am simply and humbly honored to be a tiny part of that.
