| Greatest Hits Volume 2: Reflected-Tim McGraw | ||||||||
| The "greatest hits" disc is something that tends to be overdone by artists (Or, more accurately, music labels) these days. Greatest hits discs are released two or three discs into an artist's career, and often times they include songs that were never really hits. Needless to say, when shopping around and seeing the "Volume 2" sticker attached to a greatest hits disc, it tends to bring a little more hatred to the greatest hits category. Tim McGraw certainly has that thought process going against him. However, what the man does have going for him is an actual reason to release two volumes of greatest hits discs. The first greatest hits disc showcased all of his early hits. Now, six years and three discs later, McGraw has become an even bigger star. And so, with Reflected, McGraw gives fans another taste of his biggest hits. Though this disc focuses primarily on the last six years of his career, McGraw includes two early hits not included on the first greatest hits disc. Everywhere, from 1997's disc of the same name, and Not A Moment Too Soon from all the way back in 1994 are included on this disc, almost as a brief glimpse into the Tim McGraw of old. Both songs showcase a different styling from Tim's more recent music, while still capturing the essence of what has kept him going and gaining popularity throughout the years. The vast majority of Reflected, however, focuses on the most recent years of Tim's career, where he has truly become an icon in the music industry. Real Good Man, She's My Kind Of Rain, Watch The Wind Blow By and Live Like You Were Dying are just a few of Tim's huge hits that make the cut on this disc. Each song shows a different side of this man, and help to explain why he has become such a huge success today. Reflected also shows off two duets from the past few years that have truly rocketed Tim into superstardom. First off, his duet with wife Faith Hill, Like We Never Loved At All, gives listeners a different duet from these two, a break from the previous duets professing undying love (Let's Make Love and It's Your Love, included on the first greatest hits disc). And Tim's duet with rapper Nelly is one that truly introduced a very different crowd to McGraw. Over And Over was a massive hit on pop radio and video, and not including it on this disc would be remiss. And, as with every greatest hits disc, a few new tracks are included. When The Stars Go Blue, Beautiful People, My Little Girl and I've Got Friends That Do give this disc a nice combination of where Tim has been and where his music seems to be headed. Overall, Reflected is a disc that Tim describes in the liner notes as, "An image of the past reflecting back the shape of what's to come--toward what will be." The last six years have truly been big for Tim and, if this greatest hits disc is any indicationg, he certainly has more than a few years left in the industry. |
