| Between The Dreaming & The Coming True-Bebo Norman | ||||||||
| The music of Bebo Norman has consistently been some of the most well-written and well-sung offerings out there. And he has also been one of the most consistently underrated stars of the industry. His debut disc, Ten Thousand Days, was released in 1999 with little fanfare. In 2001, Norman returned and made some waves in the Christian market with Big Blue Sky. The hit single I Am propelled sales of the disc and gained Bebo some name recognition. Then Bebo released Myself When I Am Real, which also continued to grow his fanbase. His last offering, Try, was definitely his most complete disc at the time. Now, Bebo returns with a disc that most expect to be an excellent offering of great writing and vocals. Between The Dreaming & The Coming True is poised to take Bebo's career to even greater heights. And, if the quality of music has any say in people's opinions on this disc, there is no doubt that Bebo's disc will be one of the biggest of the year. The lead single, I Will Lift My Eyes, is simply a radio introduction to an astounding disc. The single itself is an excellent track and will be argued by many as the best track on the disc. And there is certainly nothing wrong with that, because, vocally and lyrically, it's an excellent song of worship. However, the case can definitely be made that the single is just one of the tracks that falls somewhere in the middle. And that says a lot about the true quality of this disc. Into The Day (It's Over Now), I Know Now and Bring Me To Life are just three examples from this disc that make for a truly great sound. Bebo's styling musically is always intriguing, because he's a little bit pop and a little bit folk. But what makes his sound work is that his vocals always make the song what it is. He's never overpowering, but he's not timid. The tone of his voice makes for one of the most pleasing vocals out there, and these three tracks prove that to be true. And Bebo has always been a lyrical master. Tracks like Sunday, My Eyes Have Seen Holy and Time Takes It's Toll On Us show just how excellent his writing can be. He has an ability to take a song that could've been very simple lyrically and making it complex and poetic, but doing it without alienating anyone. His lyrics are complex and poetic, yet easily understandable. Few artists can do that these days. Most artists are satisfied with the simplistic lyrics, and the few that aren't often make their writings too difficult to discern for many people, causing them to lose potential fans. Bebo has managed to find the balance of the two. Overall, Between The Dreaming And The Coming True is certainly a showing of Bebo's consistent and continual musical growth. Taking the place of Try before it, Between The Dreaming And The Coming True takes the place atop Bebo's musical collection as his best and most complete disc. And, though it is a hard disc to top, there is every indication that Bebo's music will only continue to grow and get better, and that his next disc will replace this one as his best. For the time being, however, Between The Dreaming And The Coming True will be a fine disc to listen to countless times. |
