| A Collision Or (3+4=7)-David Crowder Band | ||||||||
| David Crowder Band has never been a band to follow the trend. In fact, from their first release, Can You Hear Us?, DCB has done anything but follow the trend. Now, on their third new studio release, David Crowder Band continues to set the new standards of what worship music can be. A Collision Or (3+4=7) is one of those discs that is simply all over the place. The 21 track disc starts off quietly, with an interlude. Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven (A Walk Down Stairs) gets listeners prepared for the fact that this disc can and will have anything and everything. And then...Come And Listen leads the way. But, unlike your typical disc that would be led off with a boisterous, loud, up tempo track, this one starts the disc off in a way that gets listeners ready to truly worship, which is what this disc and band are all about. The track showcases Crowder's great songwriting ability, something that has been shown throughout past discs and will be shown over and over again on this disc as well. For those dying for an up tempo track, fear not. Come And Listen leads right into the lead single from this disc, Here Is Our King. This one is a simple track with some little intricacies musically that will keep you interested. And the lyrics, once again, not too bad either. Foreverandever, Etc., A Beautiful Collision and We Win! are just some of the other tracks that also offer some "bounce-around-the-room" type songs musically while never sacrificing the lyrical aspect. But, as stated, David Crowder Band often bucks the trend. And they continue to yet again. Get ready for a good old fashioned hoedown on the end of Be Lifted Or Hope Rising, leading into I Saw The Light. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT skip this track just because you're not a country. This is one of the best tracks on the disc; a classic Hank Williams, Sr. track, a classic Johnny Cash verse, mixed in with a David Crowder Band verse to finish things off and you have an absolutely superb track. The boys certainly know how to write a worship tune. Everywhere you look on this disc, from the closing track The Larks Ascending Or (Perhaps More Accurately, I'm Trying To Make You Sing) to the throught-provoking Come Awake, even to the interludes sporadically placed (and cleverly titled) throughout the disc. And, of course, you have to give to credit to a band who can make it take longer to say the title of a song/interlude (That interlude being (Repeat/Return) Or When The Seventh Angel Sounded His Trumpet, And There Were Loud Voices In Heaven, Which Said: "The Kingdom Of The World Has Become The Kingdom Of Our Lord And Of His Chris, And He Will Reign Foreverandever Etc...") than it does to actually listen to it (It's a ten second track). That's just pure genius (Or having way too much time on your hands in the studio, I haven't decided yet). Overall, this is the worship disc of the year. Far and away. A Collision Or (3+4=7). What is the meaning behind this disc? When our depravity meets His divinity it is a beautiful collision. This is the statement that Crowder says they ended every concert with for the past two years. This recording is about that collision. It is the collision of our fallen state and our Maker's transcendecne. It is a rendering of our martality and eternal life. Don't allow yourself to miss out on this beautiful collision. |
