Rising Above Poverty
Rising Above Poverty is a comprehensive guide that shows how poverty-stricken individuals and/or families can rise above their apparent material shortcomings to become highly successful. One interesting aspect of this piece, is that the solutions offered have been tried and tested successfully by the author, who himself rose from his humble beginnings in North Carolina to become a renowned and highly successful orthopaedic surgeon. While being rooted firmly in practical solutions for real problems faced by the poor, this piece also looks at the different views and roles of various stakeholders in society in relation to this subject including the role of outsiders (a term coined by the author to describe those who have not experienced poverty); the education system; parents; family; and community. The topics covered would be of interest to teachers/educators; parents, psychiatrists and those working with lower income groups and/or inner city youth.

Becoming a Champion Somebody
The second part of the Somebody series; this piece provides the nuts & bolts of becoming a successful person through a systematic 5 step process, called the 5Ps. These stand for Planning (strategy of selecting a goal to determine where one is going); Preparation (tactics of arranging &ordering); Practice (logistics sharpening skills before going into action); Performance (action of arriving at ones goal); and Platform (post arrival activities what does one do once one has reached his/her goal). It offers a pragmatic approach that can be used by parents and teachers who would like to help youths in identifying their goal and pursuing it to fruition; as well as adults who are keen on achieving even greater success.

Baileys History of African Americans
Based on extensive research, this piece presents the history of African-Americans in its truest and complete form. It clears any misconceptions arising from manipulated or misinterpreted information commonly found in standard school textbooks. As this is a study about the history of African-Americans, it inevitably deals with the difficult subject of racism, including the forms, causes, methods and history of racism as well as insights into the philosophical and psychological needs of racists, motivation behind racist behaviors; and also touches on the effects on the victims of racism. Many parts of this book are also inspirational as it includes stories about successful African-Americans. The authors intention in presenting these facts is to give African-American youth pride in their heritage and in whom their ancestors were; and consequently give them the motivation to better themselves in order to rise above racism and poverty. In short, it is an approach for Black self-improvement.

Story of Words
There is magic in the capability to think hard and speak well. One can awe people in reports, negotiate better settlements, win friends, and otherwise influence people with the basics of good English -- grammar, pronunciation, and word usage. To have a superficial knowledge of a lot of words means knowing a lot of things. One of the best and quickest ways to know a lot of things is to study the origin of words and the tales they tell. Words when used like a periscope, give a peek into cultures, values, fears, hostiilites, mistakes, interest, and pleasures of a given culture. Recognizing the value of the "stories" behind words, in this book Dr.Bailey presents his well-researched stories of dozens of words, i.e. their derivations, their different meanings at different times of history, their added responsibilities , and what they do in a sentence. E.g. of some the words  that are elaborated on in this book, are "accounterments", "bullies", "chivalry", "depression", "emotions", "fads", "peace", "virtues", etc. This book will be of special interest to teachers, students and all individuals that have curious and inquisitive minds.
