Midi Info CRIMSON LAKE Date: July 14, 2004 Size: 13.5 kb Length: 2:51 Key: C minor Instruments: Accoustic Grand Piano, Cello, Violin, Woodblock, Taiko Drum, Vibraphone Naming Idea: The first part made me think of a lake at midnight, and the second made me think of the color red, so I just put 'em together. Crimson Lake. Pros: Very good first Zel midi. Cons: Boring base line; too formatic to be used in a game really. RISING VOLTAGE Date: August 2, 2004 Size 13.4 kb Length: 1:46 Key: C minor Instruments: Accoustic Grand Piano, Accoustic Bass, Dulcimer, Church Organ Naming Idea: Well it sounded electric, and more and more added on. Pros: A bunch of awesome lines shoved together; great if played on loop repeatedly. Cons: No melody... QUEEN OF THE DESERT Date: August 19, 2004 Size 7.5 kb Length 2:04 Instruments: Sitar, Honky-Tonk Piano Key: C minor (!) Naming Idea: I originally intended this to go somewhat with a character I plan to use if I ever end up creating The Elementalist (I may still use this midi as her theme). She's from the plains, but plains, desert, it's all the same. Sort of. Pros: Base line rhythm is nice; the phrase immediately after the middle is pretty cool too. Cons: Name doesn't fit the song... THE FLAMES OF TIME Date: August 22, 2004 Size 10.3 kb Length 2:17 Key: A minor Instruments: New Age Synth Pad, Pizz Strings, String Ensemble 2 Naming Idea: Called "Fire" for eons, then I was like hmm, the instruments I use here sound mysterious, and Time is very mysterious. Had to keep the fire theme going, so... Flames of Time. Pros: Still awesome; the part where the string ensemble comes in RULES Cons: The last two notes suck; repetitive baseline THE DEVIL'S CLOCKTOWER Date: August 29, 2004 Size 10.3 kb Length 2:17 Key: F minor Instruments: Grand Piano, Pizz Strings, New Age Synth Pad Naming Idea: I have always wanted to make a good clock chiming piece, and I think I've finally accomplished it. Pros: The name fits perfectly; the simple, haunting melodies are nice to listen to. Cons: The speeding up is too gradual, but I don't want to make it faster; the chimes take away from the whole looping value for listening to it. TUNDRA NOVA Date: September 2, 2004 Size 1.92 kb Length 1:10 Key: C major Instruments: Clarinet, Orchestral Harp Naming Idea: Well the main melody definitely sounds like a northern tundra, and the song's kinda upbeat... My bet's on that it doesn't sound anything at all like a bossa nova but who cares, really. Pros: Good in its simplicity. Cons: Not exactly what I wanted to do with the melody. You can expect to see me using it again. MIDNIGHT BREEZE Date: September 30, 2004 Size 4.71 kb Length 2:19 Key: A flat minor Instruments: Clarinet, Piano Naming Idea: A lot of times I write poetry/song lyrics to my songs as I play them. "Midnight breeze" fits the main melody. All the other words are improv. Pros: Simple, good melody, oriental style. Cons: The midi format just doesn't live up to real life. SNOWDRIFT Date: October 13, 2004 Size 2.80 kb Length 0:53 Key: C minor Instruments: Jazz Guitar, Piano Naming Idea: Take Tundra Nova, make it cool sounding, and put it in minor. The whole thing makes me think of the cold barren north, so Snowdrift. Pros: Pretty dang cool. Cons: Bass/treble relationship isn't top shape. STRIFE Date: October 28, 2004 Size 13.9 kb Length 2:08 Key: C minor Instruments: Electric Guitar, Piano, Orchestral Harp Naming Idea: I call it Strife partly because it makes me think of turmoil and partly because "strife" is such a cool word. Pros: Verrrry catchy, flows well. Cons: Probably won't ever have an ending on it. ELECTRIC SKY Date: January 23, 2005 Size 19.9 kb Length 1:37 Key: C minor Instruments: Accoustic Guitar, Distortion Guitar, Pad 7 (Halo) Naming Idea: Songs of this caliber generally make me think of the wind element, and specifically lightning. "Electric sky" has a nice ring to it and I can relate it to my wind character that I plan on using in The Elementalist. Pros: A masterful work. Tons of things going on at once, and everything fits well. Cons: Kind of obnoxious, not good background music if you aren't in the mood for it. END OF AN ERA Date: June 18, 2005 Size 18.3 kb Length 2:21 Key: A minor Instruments: Oboe, Clarinet, Piano, FX 4 (Atmosphere) Naming Idea: Read http://www.geocities.com/jabbo999/midis/Era_Scene.txt for details. Pros: Has a very complex feeling, mellows out your mood well. Cons: The cons have, more or less, been worked out of it. Yay! THE ZELDA THEME Date: August 21, 2004 Size 21.3 kb Length 5:09 Key: A minor Instruments: Violin, Cello, Accoustic Bass Why I made it: I was bored and just started writing out the theme to Zelda. Pros: The Zelda theme is awesome, and never gets old. Cons: I didn't arrange it at all, and it just loops over and over again to get the 5:09 length. THE WAY Size 70.9 kb Length 4:00 Instruments: I'll check on this some other time What it is: There's an RPG Maker 2000 (Rm2k) game out there called "The Way" and this was the song that played during the introductory scene. The Way, by the way *cough*, is a great game, and you should get it if you ever want something to play. Pros: Currently holds the title of "Greatest Midi Ever" Cons: THERE ARE NO CONS!!! THE WAY RULES!!! FANTASIA OF THE WIND Size 9.88 kb Length 3:09 Instruments: I'll check on this some other time What it is: There's an Rm2k game called "A Blurred Line." This was the title screen music. Pros: Soft, quiet, sad piece Cons: Isn't as awesome as The Way, although you really can't say that because they're different types of pieces... (Can't you see I'm scrabbling for cons here?)
