The Last Mile

If you had to walk a mile in His shoes
And carry the load He had to bear.
Would you walk through an angry crowd
Armed with stones and such hate
To touch the eyes of a blind man
Or would you just run away?

Would you walk on the waters
Of a stormy raging sea
Just to show that with faith
You can do anything
Or would you turn and look away Pretending not to see
All the doubt and dismay
Broken hearts and disbelief

Spit upon and laughed at
Beaten and bruised
A piercing crown of thorns
He had to wear.
Could you have loved them regardless
Of their countless abuse?
And just say to the Father,
They know not what they do.

Could you turn the other cheek
When slapped in the face
And still trust in the Father
And His saving grace
Or would you walk away and leave
Not concerned for their souls fate
And return to them
The same cruelty and hate

And Could you have walked
The last mile in His shoes
Where the led Him
To the cross on Calvary?
Or Could you conceive
Looking out into the crowd?
All the hatered in their eyes
He must have seen.
Still to His Father He was true
He walked the last mile
For me and you.
