The first thing I did was to decide to use this poem for my website. I chose "The Raven" for several reasons. First, it is the poem I remember the most. I thought a poem would be better than a work by Shakespeare or other storywriter because it would be easy to separate and break off if I had to (which I didn't). Also, they had a little segment on "The Raven" on an episode of The Simpsons (and I believe they also had a reading of it on another animated series, Animaniacs), so that kind of tipped the scale.
The first thing I wanted to do was to make a pdf version of the poem, unchanged, so if someone wanted to print it out, they could do it with better results. To do this, I had to go to Dad for some help. He was able to show me how to convert it, using a program he had at home. It wasn't easy, but we got it done.
Then I wanted to provide people with links to other sites about Edgar Allan Poe and sites about "The Raven" specifically, so I searched the web, looking for good sites to include. I used a bulletted list, which wasn't easy to make. I had to fool around with it for a while to get it to work.
After reading some of these sites, I gathered some information to put a brief biography on Poe on a separate page. I wanted to get a picture of him, but I was worried about copyrights of taking it from another site, so I don't have one right now.
I made a page that links to the poem in pdf, the poem in html, the other links, and the Poe bio page. I decided to do this in short paragraph form, like my homepage is set up. Then I went searching for a picture. My mom had this program with hundreds of pictures that aren't copyrighted, so I had my choice of any of those. There were no good pictures of a raven, however, out of all those pictures, so instead, I took a picture from another site, and made some changes to it, thus making it my own (I hope that's ok, gulp! Mom said it was, so, I hope she's right). It took a while to etch out the picture and take away the background stuff in PhotoShop to make it appear like it does.
I hope you like it.
