Iridium

By the century ends, cellular communication systems will cover over a half of the population, but only fifth teen percent of earth's surface.
By other hand, probably we'll have some compatibility problems between different systems.

A solution for that are Mobile Systems through Satellites. This fact allows access to remote places with simple transmitt&receive modules.

IRIDIUM is the first mobile system that offers personal  voice services, fax, radio_message and data transmission with worldwide cover.

This system will provide interconnection between GSM (Europe) and IS_41 (USA, Russia and Africa). The total cost is expected over 5000 million dollars.

IRIDIUM uses 66 satellites in cellular network, orbiting over 780 Km from the Earth. The total surface is divided in six cover_surfaces.

There are six redundant-satellites awaiting for some problem in the network.

The Earth Control Center (ECC)  is located in Hawaii, Canada and Italy.

Parameters

The K Band ( 19.4 to 19.6 GHz for downstream and 29.1 to 29.3 for upstream) is used between satellites and Earth Control Center (ECC).

Satellites to mobile phone uses 1616 MHz to 1626.5MHz with FDMA,TDMA and TDD.

FDMA stands for Frequency Division Multiple Access
TDMA stands for Time Division Multiple Access
TDD stands for Time Division Duplex
