Dear Mr. Hy Braverman,
This is my journal assignment on, “What I think about computers”. I think computers are good in small moderations. I have seen the extreme case of, “NO LIFE SYNDROME”. I have even fallen victim to this illness myself occasionally. It’s not good, and it’s even worse when it affects children. Yes I have kids, and yes the computer is one more thing for them to argue over. My big concern is how does this affect the heath condition of the world as a whole. I can envision the world in the near future with a bunch of overweight, people wearing coke bottle eyeglasses. Ergonomics need to be a top priority of computer development.
Computers help me stay organized and are a big time saver when they are working properly. I learned 80% through self-teaching (painful but effective). I started using a computer to help with the operation of my plumbing and heating business. I bought a Pentium 120 that has since been upgrade to a 233 with 48 megabytes of ram. Every day was filled with trying new software and crashing the PC. Quickly it became an asset instead of a burden. Soon I was able to cover a broader horizon than I could have without a computer.
I have been teaching plumbing and heating for 3 years now. I was surprised how many educators do not utilize computer yet. In the field of teaching you are a godsend if you are computer literate. All my students’ grades are posted on the web. I still get errors warnings and yes I format my hard drive approximately once every year. The computer has helped me excel faster and farther in my career than I could have otherwise.
Sincerely,
