Teterboro vs. Blairstown: Airport Deathmatch!

In the red corner, it is one of the busiest small airports in the region and the site of a recent incident involving a small jet crashing into a nearby warehouse that didn't kill most of the passengers as well as the pilots on board. It's also a noisy one. Please welcome...Teterboro Airport!

In the blue corner, it is a small airport that also hosts helicopter flights, air ballooning, and a popular café that famous action star Harrison Ford used to go to back in the Star Wars/Indiana Jones days. It's located down the road from a major high school, a public library, a baseball field, and a popular hiking trail near the Paulinskill River. Please welcome...Blairstown Airport!

Round 1: Popularity

Until now, Teterboro was the airport most businessman heard of as a landing place for million dollar planes and helicopters for rich people like Donald Trump and others. Now the site of a major plane crash, it has also gained notoriety for its noise and pollution that affects commuters on Route 46 as well as school students around the area (including Ridgefield Memorial High School and Slocum Skewes School, two schools that I used to go to). The size of the airport is pretty big, unlike the massive and more busier Newark Liberty International Airport.

As for Blairstown Airport, it is not as well known as Teterboro or even Newark but occasionally a small biplane or two might fly across the sky or even a noisy helicopter flown by the Darst family would surprise residents and tourists. No major crashes were reported at this area, thankfully. It is not busy as Teterboro but is one of the top airports in Warren County, along with Hackettstown Airport, where a plane crashed nearby in a grassy field, injuring the pilot.

Winner: Teterboro

Round 2: Safety

Teterboro's planes fly past Route 46 in an orderly manner. Until the crash, most planes would fly above the busy highway and not into some building. Now that the crash has crippled traffic to a snip, new safety measures will be taken if the airport reopens later this week.

Blairstown's planes fly smoothly across the sky, and there's no major road (save for the street right by the high school, trail, and library) upon which it can accidentally land on.

Winner: Blairstown

Round 3: Friendliness

If you were to fly the friendly skies at Teterboro, you must be rich and have a big plane. Most people who work at Teterboro know that pretty well for many years (until the incident that happened February 2). The NJ/NY Transit Authority owns the airport, which behaves as well as Newark, although on a smaller scale.

If you were to fly at Blairstown, you can obtain a flying license and learn how to fly as well as take air balloon rides and helicopter rides. Fun for all ages, indeed. There's also a café to crave your hunger once you're done flying. Oops! You might get airborne and sick!

Winner: Blairstown

The fight is over! The winner is...Teterboro!
