Jimmy Akers, 68, Kingsport

            KINGSPORT - Jimmy Akers, 68, passed away Sunday (March 3, 2002).
            Jimmy served in the U.S. Army and retired after 22 years of service,
            serving in Vietnam. He retired from A&L and currently worked as a
            security guard with Willamette Industry and was a member of VFW No.
            3382.
            He was preceded in death by his mother, May Akers; father, Charlie
            Akers; daughter, Virginia Hodge; and brother, Robert Akers.
              
            Surviving are his sons, James Akers and daughter-in-law, Jan,
            Jonesborough, Jimmy Akers, Blountville; daughter, Debby Akers,
            Sullivan Gardens; brothers, Larry Akers, South Carolina, Wayne
            Akers, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Kristy Churchwell, Sullivan Gardens,
            T.C. Coleman, Charlie Coleman, Kim Fogarty, Melissa Fogarty;
            great-grandchild, Jonas Churchwell.
            Friends may call anytime at the home of James Akers, 182 Hillcrest
            Circle, Jonesborough.
            Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in the Oak Hill Funeral
            Home Chapel with Pastor Shannon Powers officiating.
            Military graveside services will be conducted at Oak Hill Cemetery
            by VFW Post No. 3382.
            Pallbearers are Jeff Hurd, Alan Carter, Eugene Grizzle, Jason Wolfe,
            Bill Smith, Glen Stallard and Junior Hooker.
