| Stingray City. This is a must. No excuses. Tame stingrays come to the shallow waters near the north wall to be fed. Bring a snorkel (no need for fins) and watch these giant gentle creatures glide through the water and brush along your legs. Feel free to touch and pet them, just don't be rough. Particularly be careful with long fingernails. You can see many a Stingray with permanant scars thanks to them. Most likely your guide will bring along squid so you can feed them yourselves. Ritz Carlton Silver Rain Spa. The new Ritz Carlton Hotel features an elegant Silver Rain Spa features La Prairie cosmetics and facial products. The ultimate in luxury. DIVING One of the biggest attractions of the Cayman Islands in the world class diving. If you're an experianced diver we recommend: North Wall Diving. For those serious about scuba diving. The weather can make it tought to get out there, but it's worth it. Beautiful corals, Eagle Rays, Stingrays, Lobsters, Giant Tarpon and Eels can be seen. This is why the Caymans is ranked as one of the top spots to dive. East End Diving. Hard to get to if you're staying on Seven Mile Beach, but if you rent a car, we recommend that you give Ocean Frontiers a call and schedule an afternoon dive. The East End has one attraction that we have never spotted on the North or West walls and that's sharks. For those of you who aren't certified we recommend Resort Dive with the Westin. You don't need any previous diving experience to do a resort dive. You take a day or two of lessons and you are able to dive with that operation for a couple of days. Red Sail Sports at the Westin has a nice program and is convieniently located down the beach from Plantana. Great for families and people new to scuba. Snokeling. If you haven't got that PADI card yet, or if you just want to take it easy and have the freedom to go wherever you want, snorkeling is the answer. From Plantana, you can practically go right off shore. Up the beach to the north, there is plenty of coral and aquatic life. Here we've seen all kinds of small fish, Crabs, Parrot Fish, Squids, and even an Octopus. There are plenty of other places to explore as well. Just grab a diving/snorkeling map, hop in your car and go exploring. Turtle Farm. On a cloudy day, or just a lazy day the Turtle Farm can be a neat place to visit, especially for those with children. This is where sea turtles are breed and raised to repopulate the oceans. You can learn all about these creatures and see them at all stages of development. |
| Our Business Recommendations: Red Sail Sports. Can't be beat. Great staff, very professional. Large boats and locations at the Hyatt and the Westin which makes it easy walking distance from Plantana. For West Wall diving, a boat will come up on the beach in front of the Westin to pick you up, and for North Wall diving and trips to Stingray City, a van will pick you up at the Westin and take you to the Hyatt , where they have a cove on the North side of the island. They also have excellent all-day and half-day snorkeling trips which take you to a couple of snorkel sites plus Stingray City and make include lunch or other perks like that. They are involved in other activities as well, such as sunset cruises, and waverunner rentals. Red Sail can run a little pricey, but in this case, you get what you pay for. We do almost all of our activities out of Red Sail. Tel (345)949-8732 Ocean Frontiers. This is the dive operation we use for East End dives. Very professional, small groups, nice people, nice facilities and good equipment, and when you're diving what more could you ask for? Tel (345)947-7500 |
