MA Frameworks:
    T/E 1.1, 2.3, Learning std. 2 + 3: properties of objects and materials, Physical Sciences, Grades 3-5

* Compare and contrast solids, liquids, and gases based on the basic properties of each of these states of matter

       *
Describe how water can be changed from one state to another by adding or taking away heat.

Learning std. 2: Grades pre-K - 2

* Identify objects and materials as solid, liquid, or gase.  Recognize that solids have a definite shape and that liquids and gases take the shape of their container.

Earth and Space Science, Learning std. 10 + 11, Grades 3-5

* Describe how water on earth cycles in different forms and in different locations, including underground and in the atmosphere.

* Give examples of how the cycling of water both in and out of the atmosphere has an effect on climate.

Objectives For Each Lesson
Lesson 1:
*
The students will identify liquids, solids and gases.

Lesson 2:
* The students will compare and contrast solids, liquids and gases.

Lesson 3:
* The students will observe and record if the substance takes the form of the container or space it is in.

Lesson 4:

* The students will make predictions of what state a stae of water will change to when heat is added or subtracted.

Lesson 5:

* The students will write observations to what they see and notice from the experiments.

Lesson 6:

* The students will diagram the path the water travels from the mountains to the ocean.

Lesson 7:

* The students will identify the stages of the water cycle
.

Lesson 8:

* The students will place the water cycle in order on a diagram.

Lesson 9:

* The students will write a story describing a day in the life of a drop of water.
* The students will diagram and explain the path that the water travels to reach the ocean.
