| There are many ways of training your fighters. I will describe how I train my bettas and other ways of training. Using a 2 to 5 gallon tank is prefered for the following training and exercises. 1. Developing confidence In this training, you will build the confidence of your fighter. What I normally do, is place a fighter into a 5 gallon tank with some almond leaves and 5-7 small females. I let the fighter chase and attack these smaller females for about 15 to 30 minutes. Then I remove all the females and leave the male in the tank. I continue doing this exercise for 5-7 days followed by two days of rest. During this training period, I feed my fighters 4-6 blackworms daily. I feed my fighters before I introduce the females. This way he will not develop fat from sitting around after he has eaten. 2. Mating Drive (Not practice by vietnamese and malaysian) In this training, I place a female ready for breeding into a 5 gallon tank. I than place the fighter inside the tank with the female. At the first initial sense of awareness, the male will dance around the female showing off to her. The female will bar and show her readiness to breed. This will increase the males protective drive and will stimulate the urge to breed. I let them dance for about 15 minutes and then I remove the male. This can be done in vice versa place the female into the males tank but there is a higher possibilities of the female getting injured. 3. Water stirring and socializing fighters with water movements ( I don't practice this). Fill a 3 gallon cylinder tank (about 10inX12in) or jar until there is only about an inch from the top. Placeyour fighter in. Place a mirror or another fighter next to it and allow them to flare for about 1minute. Then, slowly start to spin the water. Spin the water about 7 to 10 turns than let your fighter rest for about 5 minutes or until he catches his breathe. Then contunue this exercise. Continue this two times than let it rest. Countinue for 3 days then let the fighter rest for 2 days. 4. Flaring exercise Place your fighter into 2 gallon tank. Place beside him another fighter. Allow them to flare at each other for about 15 minutes or until they start to bite the glass then block them up. A black tip pen cap or pen is useful in this exercise. This exercise will produce a fighting drive. On the second day remove the blinds again and let them flare for about 3-5 minutes then gently tap or point the pen tip or cap at the fighter. You will notice that he will turn his attention to the pen and start to attacking it forcefully. At this point block him up again. Repeat this excercise for 3 more days then let him rest for 2 days. You will notice that at the end of the training your fighter will now attack the pen cap each time you point it at him without another fighter in site. I have noticed that this training helps your fighters to target the head areas. Theses are a few training techniques that I have used. There are many other ways and variations to the above ways of training. It all depends on what you consider to be the best. |
