Orem,Utah is not the best place to try to make it when you are a loud-volume band like The Used. But hometown intolerance was not the biggest problem they had to deal with while trying to make it big... Battling homelessness (they used to beg for money on the street in order to buy food) and substance abuse (Mormon-raised McCracken has been clean for over two years and says music is what saved him), The Used still managed to land a record deal with Reprise Records. Releasing their self-titled debut in 2002, The Used got America's recognition quickly. (Bert's on-stage antics including vomiting on stage didn't hurt.)
* Why I like them: I saw them in 2004 with my mom at Projekt Revolution. (Thankfully Bert didn't throw up on stage :P ) I liked them right away, and ran out to buy 'The Used' for the song 'Blue and Yellow'. Since then, The Used has become one of my favorite bands and I can't wait 'till I see them in concert again this year!
