Matchbook Romance started out in Poughkeepsie, NY in 1997 as 'Getaway'. All the band members were computer-savvy and used this to open their own website and promote themselves. The band gained solid exposure by submissions to unsigned band sites such as mp3.com. Thanks to this, the band started playing to growing audiences in the Northeast. Brad Gurewitz heard the Gateway's demo via punknews.org and got in touch with Jordan.
Gateway soon found themselves in California, signing a record deal with the famous punk rock label. Legal issues encouraged Gateway to become Matchbook Romance and quickly saw the release of their first album, The West For Wishing EP in 2003. The release of Stories and Alibis led to a 2004 tour.

* I bought Stories and Alibis shortly after it's release. I had never heard of them before and wanted to try something new. I was on a good streak of finding good new groups (The Rasmus, Switchfoot, etc...) and wasn't let down with this choice. I am hopefully going to see them in tour in early 2005.
