Mike and Brad laid down the groups first material in 1996 in Mike's bedroom. The Southern-California grown group actually began as Xero, changing to Hybrid Theory and finally Linkin Park. (Which is a deliberate misspelling of Lincoln Park which was thought up by Chester.) After becoming Linkin Park, the group became a regular at the club Wisky A Go-Go. In 1999 LP landed a record deal with Warner Bros. after being passed over by several other labels.

With the help of producer Don Gilmore, LP delivered it's debut album Hybrid Theory in 2000, titleing it after their former alias. Debuting in the U.S. top 20 in November 2000, the LP album quickly recieved rave reviews. By this time, Pheonix had re-joined the group after leaving for a year. In 2001 LP toured non-stop, playing a total of 324 shows including Ozzfest and Projekt Revolution. Within a year they were bumped to headlining status and by early 2002, were nominated for three grammys including Best New Artist. Hybrid Theory eventually went eight times platinum and became the top-selling album of 2001, as well as the fifth-best-seller of 2002. In 2002, LP released a follow-up remix album Reanimation before releasing their official sophmore album Meteora in 2003. The first single, Somewhere I Belong was as instant hit and LP got underway for the second annual Projekt Revolution tour in Spring 2003.

** When I first heard of Linkin Park, I didn't really like them. Then I started jamming to them non-stop. In 2004 I saw them at Projekt Revolution and was so excited when Mike touched me two times. I was so proud of myself that day because I got my mom to be a fan of theirs as well. Now she is calling me, telling me I have to burn her a copy of 'Numb'. :)
