Sweden and Norway 1999

Sweden: Göteborg

In 1999 my wife was pregnant, however we still wanted to see something from the world. We went by car from the Netherlands to Danmark, Sweden and Norway.

We visited Kopenhagen and the castles Kronberg and Rogenberg. We went by ferry to Sweden and further to Göteborg. From here we went to Smögen, a village near the sea which should be visited just before the touristik-period as we did. Oslo in Norway is a busy city at a nice location near the sea. Visit the Frognerpark with its sculptures.

Driving in Norway is very relaxed; there is a 90 km/h speed-limid and the further you drive away from Oslo, the quieter it gets on the road. From Oslo we went west through Telemark, via Morgedal, and the beautiful Hardangervidda.

We arrived at Bergen and had beautiful weather..... they say it rains in Bergen more than 300 days a year! Bergen is a beautiful harbor-city; visit Mount Fløyen by Floi-banen (a touristik mountain train) and enjoy the view of the city and the harbor. From Bergen we went to Flåm and the famous Flåm-bahn.

From here it went back south via again the Hardangervidda, Geilo to Oslo. After all this travelling we haven't seen one elk. On the way back we decided to visit Vänersborg in Sweden, in the hope to see one. We failed......

Norway is probably the most beautiful country in Europe! It has nice people, beautiful and varied nature.
