:: Muncipality of Anini-y ::
Anini-y is one typical
town of Antique that is imbued with historical facets and tourist attractions.
The Myths and Legends of the Philippines identified this area to have
been peopled by Ignieni tribes long before the Borneans came. Their folk stories
on Tub/ok Lawi and other gods told about the creation of their ancient
world. Hinilawod has cited the puro it hurao-hurao The Maragtas
of Monteclaro and the Santaren Papers have declared that the Ten Bornean Datus
landed at Imbidayan a rock formation at a beach which is now part of Sinogbuhan
but is claimed by local folks to have been part of Anini-y before but the
leadership then failed to claim.
The barter supposedly took place under kadapdapan which root word is dapdap- the old name of Anini-y barangay bounding Sinogbuhan. The town started as an arabal of Dao (now T. Fornier) in the year 1843 while Spain still ruled over the island. In 1848, the parish priests of Anini-y and Dao initiated the transfer of the barrios of Magdalena, Casay, and San Francisco from Dao to Anini-y. It was then that Anini-y established its legal identity and became separated from its mother town. The coming of the Americans at the turn of the twentieth century and the introduction of their democratic government reverted Aniniy to its status as arabal of Dao.
On August 5, 1949, President Elpidio Quirino signed Executive Order 205 mandating Anini-y to cease from being an arabal of Dao and to become a separate town. This order was initiated by the late Juan C. Obaga who was appointed its first municipal mayor through the efforts of the late Congressman Egmidio Nietes of the Lone District of Antique. Mayors Draper and Ela were elected after him. Mayor Leon's term (1964-February 1986) ended when President Marcos was overthrown during the EDSA Revolution.
When Pres. Corazon C. Aquino took power, Mr. Virgilio Rendon was appointed as Officer In-Charge Municipal Mayor. He was elected into the position twice until 1995 when he was defeated by Mr. Reynaldo Belleza Pollicar. The concreting of the national roads in the major barangays of Anini-y was realized during Mayor Pollicar's incumbency.
