Divisibility Rules

2         If the number ends in an even number (0, 2, 4, 6, 8) , then the number

 can be divided by 2

 

        Ex.      490

 

                    598

 

 3        Add the digits. If the digits can be divided by 3, then the number can be divided by 3

 

                        Ex.  243=  2+4+3=9

                                    9 can be divided by 3, so 243 can be divided by 3

 

4         If the last two numbers can be divided by 4, then the number can be

     divided by 4

 

Ex.    57,036 = 36 can be divided by 4 , so 57,036 can be divided by 4

 

5         If the number ends in a 5 or 0, then the number can be divided by 5

 

      Ex.                  845

 

                              530

 

6         If the number can be divided by both 2 and 3, then the number can be divided by 6

 

Ex.   624= ends in even #, so can be

                 divided by 2

                                      

                    624= 6+2+4= 12, 12 can be divided by 3

 

*Since 624 can be divided by both 2 and 3, then 624 can be divided by 6

 

 

 

 

9         Add the digits. If the digits can be divided by 9, then the number can be divided by 9

 

Ex.  558=  5+5+8=18

                                    18 can be divided by 9, so 558 can be divided by 9

 

10     If the number ends in 0, then the number can be divided by 10

 

                        Ex.                  830
