This is a bottle hunt that Jason, John & I and our new young friend Jessie (aka -Turtle) went on in Marietta Ohio to an old doctors office. The doctors name was Doctor Hart and the house dated back to 1830. We were hoping to find some really nice pontils there that had Dr. Harts name on them but all we found were broken ones with his name on them.
We went back to this house for 3 weekends and finally found an old pontil privy.
All we found were 5 Clarks, 1 Wheeling WV bottle and a nice old hinge mold canning jar.
We met Jessie at church and he found the place for us to go digging because he wanted to learn what privy digging was all about.
We plan on going out on quite a few more digs with this young fella...since he IS the future of bottle diggers.
I love to see it when young kids get involved in bottle digging..(plus they are easier to buy bottles from than the old guys are)...they just want a couple of bucks to go to the store to get a pop... hahaha
Really, I just like to be one of the guys to help keep bottle digging alive for years to come. And what better way to do it than teach the younger generation what its all about. |
