Sandy watching over the baby chicks. It seems as if she counts them and knows who is there. If one gets out she lets us know. |

Sandy is a pup from our first litter. As a pup she would come and crawl in my lap everytime I was out with the pups. We decided to keep her because she had picked us . We all love her so much. She is very protective of our 4 boys and keeps an eye out for them all the time. She is gentle, loving and fun. In the house she is quit the "lady" and a good house dog, knowing her place. Her passion on the farm is that everything has a place and needs to stay in that place. She is a wonderful herder. She loves to gather the chickens, put a stray cow away, and keep the goats in their field. Like her mother she shows no fear when we have a stubborn animal to pen up or put in a trailer. I was very proud of her this past winter. Our boys went duck hunting and shot two ducks into our pond. We were trying to figure out how to get the ducks. We had the dogs with us and Sandy was the first to realize what we were trying to do. She whinned and ran back and forth. I kept telling her to fetch pointing at the duck. She went in after the duck and tried to get it, but the duck was still alive and ducked under the water. She lost it and came back to me. She wouldn't go back out, but I was very impressed that she caught on to what I wanted and that she tried. She stayed beside me worrying and whinning about the duck. We have never trained the dogs in retrieving from the water. I know she tried and wanted to please. By the way.. yes, we did get the ducks and had duck gumbo. |
