With over 30,000 copies of his Narrative selling in five years, there is no mistaking Frederick Douglass as an influential leader in the abolitionist movement.  He wrote about his personal and often painful life as a slave in order to call attention to the abuses of many men, women, and children.  He stressed every persons right for individual freedom and devoted his speeches and writings to this cause.  Frederick Douglass was a man of integrity who worked hard for the abolistionist movement to change American's views on slavery.  From the moment Douglass found himself a free man, he spoke out about the sins of slavery and believed every person had the right to individual freedom.
