Our Argument
We will argue that Douglass expressed his individuality through his speeches and essays to further the abolitionist movement.  Douglass could no longer silently stand by and leave the issue of slavery in the hands of the white culture.  He used his intellect, presence, and independence to become a social activist to increase awareness of everyones right for individual freedom.
