The Journey There by Jeremy Lee When we were little we used to just lay there. Every once in a while we'd sit up, but then we'd like fall back down for some reason. We'd suck our thumbs and then give one or two coughs. We don't remember a lot of things—I don't think we even remember when or where we took our first steps. We all bumped into a lot of things too, probably wondering what the hell just happened. But man, those were the days when we were all little solders on a mission—a mission to find something. Whether it was storming through closets or flushing Bert and Ernie down the toilet, it was a time when we had little dreams and goals. We didn't stop for anything either, not until we got what we wanted. We grow older and we meet certain people—people who fill our hearts with bliss and love. Sometimes we become so attached to another that it begins to hurt. Next thing we know we’re wishing for a stronger glue to mend the broken pieces of our hearts back together. No matter what we've been through or who we will meet, the mosaic of our heart will always be that much stronger in the long run. Just keep that glue in hand and keep marching, soldier. We're approaching that time where we are all about to head in separate ways; and in high school that would've seemed like a lifetime away. Though we're still young adults, we still have some time left to bump into things. We all dream of doing something and at our age now, we're more conscious of our own desires. Some of us, however, still haven't taken that first step; some of us still fall back down and just cough; some of us still wonder why Ernie won't go down the toilet. We all began on our knees crawling. We eventually learned how to walk, and sooner or later we learned how to run and jump. Now, we learn how to look up in the sky and wish we could fly like the birds. It's something we all know is impossible, or at least we were taught so. Now, we all have our dreams; we all have our goals; there's at least one thing in life that all of us crave. If we all have to crawl and look through closets to get there, then that's what it takes. As long as nothing gets in the way of that little soldier inside all of us, we too will fly just as high as the birds we dream to be. So lets soar in the sky and always keep in mind the journey we took to get here.
