Journal Entry

August 12, leaving Philadelphia

Well, here I am at the airport. It rained all the way, but now it's clear. There's a large-ish tour group in the waiting area, but given that I'm about three hours ahead of boarding for my flight, I bet they're not on flight 68 to London.

I ended up having to check part of my baggage, which is a pain, but I'm still glad I brought just a small amount with me, even if it is over 12 kilos. It was really easy to manage on the way here. I hope they don't manage to lose my bag. I really hate checking them--it's so much easier to just walk off the plane, with everything all ready to go. Oh well.

I can't believe that I'm really on my way to London!! I can't wait to get on the plane. I just hope that "too much PDA" couple over there is on a different flight. It's one thing to make out, and it's another thing to make out eighteen inches from someone else....

Well, I just called Mom, and had a nice chat. It's starting to feel a little more "real" that I'm going on this trip. But only a little more real.... I've been in airports lots of times before, and never yet have I gone anywhere exciting. Maybe once I get on the plane....

Well, now I'm here on the plane. The flight attendants have British accents, which bodes well for me really being on my way out of the country.

And, after a somewhat sleepless night on the plane, here's my first picture of England.... (click on it for the next page)
