Wanderers from Ys

Kenai, and the Tigre Mine

You have been traveling with Dogi for two years now - and it has been three years since the events that transpired in "Ancient Ys Vanished". You eventually come to Dogi's homeland, Kenai, and decide to stick around for a while, since there are some problems here. When you arrive, you are greeted by Jetai, who stands at the gate of Kenai.

Jetai tells you that there are strange monsters roaming around, and that they have had bad crops for a while now. You enter the town, and work your way to an Inn called The Lodge. Apparently, Dogi owns this place, and is happy to return. As you arrive, a woman steps out. You are told this is Elena by Dogi. She says she hasn't seen her brother in the past few months, but he leaves in a hurry.

You step inside the Lodge for a moment, but Dogi leaves you to it. When you leave, talk to all the people - you will find out that Mayor Grady is worried about something, and that Grandma Ada locked herself away since her grandson, Roy, was killed in a cave-in. Also, people from Valestine Castle have been seen to watch the village.

When you reach the entrance to Kenai, you will hear that Tigre mine was attacked by monsters. Mayor Grady is still there and the other miners have left (except for Harvey, who stayed behind to look after the mayor). You decide to help, so first off go and buy some equipment. You will need the Short Sword, Light Armour and Wooden Shield, which leaves you with 100 gold left over for a herb if you want.

When you first reach the mines, you will not be very powerful, so once inside, go back and forth inside the first section to get up to level 2. Remember that if you step outside, you will quickly recover health. Now, head to the bottom of the mine shaft (the second section). Watch out for the cyclopes (with the horns), as they are still quite touch, but provide good experience and money.

At the bottom, first head through the left passage - you will find a chest and a locked door. The chest contains a Power Ring, and you cannot do anything about the door yet so head back left, and continue going along left to the other side of the shaft. Follow these passages for a while. You will eventually reach a flight of steps heading down, and a chest containing Roy's Pendant. Take it, and go down.

You will come across a Swordsman. He tells you to get out, before a miner (Harvey) confronts him. The swordsman hits him, and leaves down more stairs. Harvey says that Mayor Grady is still there. He gives you a key to the warehouse, which holds a sword that was found in the mine, and that could help you. If you check the description of the key, it will say that the sword is protected by a monster. Now would be a good time to return to town. You should have enough money to buy Chain Armour (1500 gold), and then go and see Grandma Ada. She sees the pendant and, realizing it was you who went to help, fears for your life. She gives you the Shield Ring, to prevent another tragedy like that of her grandson's.

Return to the mine, and go to the mine shaft. Now, instead of going down, look to the left wall - you will see more wooden supports. Jump onto these, and then climb up the rock face at the top - you will find another door here. Go through, and you will have to fight the boss. He introduces himself as Duran. He is easily killed if you equip the Shield Ring. Take his longsword. Now, head back to where Harvey is, and go down the stairs.

Follow the steps down, and jump down the two shafts. You will soon reach another door. Inside is the second boss, a large gargoyle. At level 4 with the Shield Ring equipped, he isn't much of a problem - get close and hit him when he charges up his lightning, but move away when he fires it. When he dies, you will find the Sunset Statue. Head right, through a hole in the wall to find the swordsman again. He stands next to another man, who cowers on the floor.

You overhear the swordsman telling Grady not to interfere, or that they both will die. He then jumps down to you and tells you that you are brave for challenging him - so he won't attack you now, but should your paths cross again, he'll have to kill you. He leaves, so go and speak with Grady. He apologizes for the predicament he has put you in. You take him out, and asked by Harvey to go and tell the town that their mayor is safe.

The Alcaino Ruins

Return to Kenai, and you will be told that Dogi is waiting for you at the Lodge. Head there, and when you arrive you will see that Elena is also there - she asks you to do her a favour. She says that it has been 6 months since her brother, Chester, left and that now he may be working at the castle for King Mcguire. He was seen at the Alcaino Ruins, so Elena went there. She found Chester's pendant on the ground, and saw a monster roaming around. She thought Chester may wander the Ruins regularly.

Dogi continues, and says that Brother Pierre went to the Ruins, but he hasn't returned yet. He asks you to look for him, so immediately head off to the Ruins (unless you want to buy something first). To get there, leave the town, and it will be the next place along from the mines on your map. Once you get in, you may find it quite difficult, so it will be worth saving up and shelling out for a new shield very soon. In fact, you will need one, as some fireballs in the second indoor section of the Ruins do a lot of damage. Either that, or wait for the Small Shield in the aforementioned part of the Ruins

The chest containing the Small Shield is downstairs in the area with the fireballs. Once you have it, go back up stairs, and to the right. You will come to a balcony, and overhear two people below. The swordsman is asking Brother Pierre why he is here. He says that he got lost, but is lying - the swordsman knows that he came here looking for a statue. The swordsman then sees you, and sends two guards to arrest you. Realising that he is Chester, you tell him about his sister, and that she is worried. She thought he was a good man. But he says that his life is of no concern either to you, or his sister, so throws you into the Lava Pit.

From here, head left first. Try to avoid the fireballs that go up and down - you can see where they rise, so avoid them then. When you reach the second section, climb the wall to the left to find a herb. Climb back down, and head right, this time under the first passage. The second section you come to from here has arcs of fire chasing you - don't stop, and you'll be fine. You will come to the boss, a Fire Dragon. Equip your Shield Ring, and hit him in the head when he rises from the ground. Simple - with him dead, you will get the Stone Idol.

With the Dragon dead, return to where you initially landed after being thrown into the Lava Pit. Now, head to the right. You will come to a river of lava, but the Stone Idol will cool it into solid rock. Cross the magma, and continue onwards. Eventually, you will arrive back in the Ruins, and Elena will be there. Glad that you're safe, she hears someone coming and tells you to hide (through a door). At that point, Chester comes in. He heard you, but he thinks he is mistaken. Another man comes in and asks if he knows what happened to Brother Pierre. Chester says that Pierre knows the plans, so he must be locked up in Valestine Castle, ands that they must get the location of the statue from him.

A soldier now arrives, and tells the second man (Sir Merland) that the Fire Dragon (Gilan) has been killed. They all rush off to see what's happened. Adol then finds a switch in the other room, which opens up a secret doorway to the altar. Elena tells you that a strange monster guards the statue, and then heads back to town. Now, you should get up to about level 6, and have the Broadsword, before going through here. You will across a Wyvern - again, use the Shield Ring, and hit him when he comes near you - very easy at this level, but possibly too hard before. With the Wyvern dead, you will find the Sunstar Statue.

Go back through the secret door, and you will be confronted by Chester. He says he is forced to fight you, and as he is about to attack, Elena rushes in. She tells him to stop, saying that it was her who asked you to find him, begging him not to fight. Chester then mentions some "tragic incident", and tells you he doesn't want to fight you, before leaving. Elena now takes you back to town.

The Story of Demanicus

Back in town, Elena tells you that she has things to take care of, and leaves. Dogi then walks up to you, and says that he is going to Mount Seko to see his old teacher. He also mentions that the Mayor would like to speak with you. Go to his house (it was the empty one next to the Lodge), and he will tell you that someone has ransacked his room, no doubt looking for the statue that he doesn't have. He assumes it is someone from Valestine Castle, and suggests that the statues are the reason the monsters are roaming the town. He asks you to join him, so say yes. He then as
