It was only a simple barbershop-or was it?
Barbers in comicbooks and other paper media.
Entry for November 1, 2006

When I was young, I would spend at least one afternoon a week in my dad's shop  www.geocities.com/jsub7/barber/dadshop.jpg. There was always a stack of comicbooks there to keep kids out of trouble while they waited their turn or waited for their dad. This being in the mid-sixties, you would think I would be reading all the cool new output from Marvel Comics, but such is not the case. I remember most of the comics being the cartoon type. Bugs Bunny, Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, Uncle Scrooge, Goofy, etc. Also characters like Casper, Hot Stuff, Richie Rich, etc. There would be a superhero (most often Batman or Superman) comic or two in there also, but mainly the selection was non-superhero. I guess that’s what started me on my way to being hooked on comics.

When my father passed away, I had already started collecting comicbooks with Barbers featured on the cover. It was when I ran across a copy of Superman #38 from 1946 that I thought, "Hey, what a cool theme to collect". Heck there couldn’t be THAT many comicbooks with covers featuring Barbering on the cover. Little did I know! With the aid of a set of the Gerber Photo-Journal Guide to Comic Books, I located a few dozen Barber themed covers and I was on my way.
