The kitchen remodel in progress!
The rest of the road trip

We left the Grand Canyon by way of the east entrance about 4pm that day and just kept going west north west.  Our first overnight was in Tuba City.

The next day we drove across northern Arizona to Four Corners.  I think we were a little dissappointed in Four Corners, but mainly because we misinterpreted the pictures we had seen.  We thought it had more services.  Only a few porta potties out behind sheds that housed Native Arts for sale.  But.... we were there!  We continued our travel east across southern Colorado.  Southwestern Colorado is very pretty, some mountain passes to climb, scenic towns and for us some very high winds.  It was really windy that day and in fact the news that night stated some gusts as high as 58 mph.  The good news... it was mostly a tail wind and the Ford Explorer acturally got 25 and 26 mpg.  (It's normal is 18 - 20).

Our second overnight was in Walsenburg Colorado.  We had planned to travel out east from Pueblo the next day, but the winds had driven grass fires in the area.  So, we headed east out of Walsenburg.  Talk about miles and miles of nothing but praire.  We occasionally saw signs on fence lines  "NOT for sale".  Finally we saw a sign that said "Not for sale to the US Army".    The rare side road usually said the name of some ranch then added... headquarters 8 miles or 9 miles... or other equally long distance.  Like I said, miles and miles of nothing.

Once we crossed into Kansas the towns were a little closer together and you could actually see farm buildings.  We headed north and east until we caught Interstate 70.  We traveled that for awhile till we reached Salina, then headed north again to York, Nebraska.  We stopped in York for our final overnight.

From York it was Interstate freeway the rest of the way home.  It was rainy and windy in Nebraska and Iowa.  Not a fun day on the roads.  Plus the Interstates were full of Semi traffic.   In any case, we made it back to Minneapolis about 4pm.  Stopped at Ryan's house to pick up the dog.  Joel came over and we had supper there.  (EeChee and Mira were visiting some of EeChee's family in Ohio).  We were back in Pine City about 9pm.  Lots of traveling, lots of time in the car.

We had planned to stop and see whatever looked interesting while traveling.  But once in the car and underway, we'd say... "oh, lets just keep going"  We didn't stop nearly as much as we thought we would.  I think if we had made plans to stop at specific destinations, we would have done better.

But, we did it.  We took a long road trip together and survived it.  No bodily damage.... no car problems...
