December 21, 2007 - Check Your Facts, Kevin Brady
The Villager of December 13, 2007 described a speech made by U.S. Congressman Kevin Brady in which he said he is unhappy with the lack of decisions being made in Washington. Brady says democrats are to blame for a lack of decisions being made on defense spending, children's health insurance and oil prices.

Let me remind Mr. Brady that defense continues to be funded including the war in Iraq, so what's his beef? Republicans should be delighted that the democratic leadership has given in so easily on funding Iraq.

Oil prices? Would Brady endorse intervening into the free markets? Sounds pretty leftist to me. Somehow he blames the dems for our dependence on mideast oil! What?! Why has the White House only given lip service to conservation and alternate energy and not actually done anything about it? (Just like the last umpteen administrations.)

Children's health care?? Excuse me?? Who vetoed whom? The initial bill was funded by those who cost all of us a lot of money in the way of insurance premiums because of their high illness and cancer rate, cigarette smokers, by taxing cigarettes. After Bush vetoed it the democrats gave in to all his demands and resubmitted it only to have it vetoed again! Bush's complaint? It might cover too many people!! What?! Heaven forbid some middle class people get some much needed help from our government. Oh yeah, I forgot, with this administration that's only been reserved for the rich and powerful.

The budget? Mr. Brady says the difference between democrats and republicans is that dems want to increase taxes and the repubs want to cut spending. How do you balance the budget, Kevin Brady? Don't ask your buddy George W. Bush that's for sure. He has outspent all of his predecessors in record fashion and put this country into a debt nightmare that our kids and grandchildren will have to pay for. Maybe, Mr. Brady, you should ask the last president who not only was able to balance the budget but was able to hand over a surplus to his successor. Let's see, who would that be? Oh yeah! Bill Clinton!
